Facebook privacy tool

I think this tool is very interesting for facebook users as it rates the exposure levels that you have on it.

ReclaimPrivacy.org | Facebook Privacy Scanner

Quote:
Get Protected

This website provides an independent and open tool for scanning your Facebook privacy settings. The source code and its development will always remain open and transparent.

1. Drag this link to your web browser bookmarks bar: Scan for Privacy
2. Log in to facebook.com and then click that bookmark
3. You will see a series of privacy scans that inspect your privacy settings and warn you about settings that might be unexpectedly public.
4. Follow us on Facebook to hear about the latest updates.

Get Involved

Our mission is to promote privacy awareness on Facebook and elsewhere.
Just used it and my only issue was that I was sharing info with third party websites which I corrected promptly.

...I cant believe people actually give their settings to an outside unrelated party, in return for the promise of just generic comments on what it obtained (after hit).
I guess this tools targets similar audiences to those in spam emails giving you links to "unsubscribe" that actually subscribe you to even more mailinglists.

It doesnt matter whether I think so or not, or is or not.
There is no reason to need being told by a tool about how much privacy is bad on facebook. If reason failed to get people to realize, I doubt a software's output would do better.

Well I think some people are unaware of how much information they are displaying so this might be an alert for them.

The other day I had to call my sister right away 'cause I saw her pictures with her car showing the plate. What a dumb move.

People take facebook too lightly.

All it does is look at your FB profile, something anyone can do. I hardly think it's intentions are malicious since it's telling you where you left yourself open and telling you how to correct it.

Golden tip for all: customize everything to 'only me', unless its very trivial to disclose (wether to friends, friends of friends, or the entire internet) or necessary to be contactable (like name, city, age, profile picture)

Thanks! Despite being rather aware of such privacy issues, Facebook certainly doesn't make it easier. This application gets a big thumb up from me, and I recommend it to anyone.

I had the same results as Silenus by the way, because these weren't part of the most recent Facebook outrage when everyone was asked to set their privacy limitations several months ago.

Facebook really seems like a over flooding mess to me.
I have never wanted in since they started out, along the same time as "netlog" and other sites started with their "email-msn-buddy-list"-hooking to gain userbase.

It doesn't seem to be a community either, at least to my standards.

Just the hint of a need for a tool such as that, for a "community site"...

Well to me it's a great way for keeping in contact with people I know and who live in other countries. I simply don't have time to keep up with everyone on MSN, so it's a nice way of at least keeping other people in check about what's going on, rather than losing track completely.

SaveFace is another open source tool to protect your facebook privacy settings. I really hate the fact that people use facebook without noticing the risk they're at. Glad this tools exist.
