Connecting my notebook to LCD TV

Yesterday i connected my Toshiba Notebook A300(Radeon HD3400) using VGA out to my 26' Panasonic LCD TV.
But in the TV manual, it says the max res is 1366x768, but i could only set it to 1024x768.

My notebook can go as high as 1280x800, but only because of it's 15' monitor. After i set the "connect to a projector" on the video settings, the highest res was 1600x1200.

The thing is, in the list of available res of my video card, there was 1360x768, and not 1366x768.
Maybe that's the problem?

I'm running Win 7 Pro, and using the video drivers from windows update. If i install the catalyst drivers, should i be able to add the custom res of 1366x768?

1366x768 has been considered an arbitrary resolution for a while now, but LCD manufaturers continue to utilize it for whatever reason at all.

Anyway, your best bet is to set it to 1280x720 or if you feel inclined, 1360x768, and then be done with it. I found that even at its native resolution, texts on LCD HDTVs tend to be blurry still, and you are better off choosing a resolution that has the same aspect ratio, but is lower than the native resolution of the LCD, typically, that's 1280x720.

i don't know about ATI anymore (since I no longer own an ATI card), but adding that resolution for an HDTV on nVidia's side is... maddening.

I remember my laptop outputting a max of 1360x768 on my dad's old TV (it also said 1366x768 max). The Catalyst Control Center does have a bunch of settings regarding resolutions and HDTV compatibility, so I'd give it a try.

My Asus is 1366*768 and I connect it to my boss HDTV 1360*768, everything works perfect on Windows 7.

When i tried to set 1360x768 i only got a black screen.
I tried cloning, expanded and TV only.
Gonna download the catalyst now, should i get it from Toshiba site or AMD's?

EDIT: On my TV manual, the res available are 1024x768 and 1366x768, the others are even lower than 1024...

I'm using an Nvidia.

Sorry can't help you more but if you use Extended display you should see the highest supported res on each monitor.

That's what I see on windows 7.

It's the same here. I can see up to 1280x800 on my notebook, and 1600x1200 on the TV.
Going to install the video drivers from Toshiba site now, report back later.

1366x768 is used so you can do 1024x768 with 1:1 pixel mapping. It's very useful, think of older games with no widescreen support.

OP, determine what is the native resolution of your TV, and set the resolution to that, preferably with a HDMI or at least DVI cable. It should work from the getgo. If you get a black screen, you are likely setting the wrong resolution.
If your TV is Full HD, the native resolution should be 1920x1080. If it is HD Ready, it's 1366x768 (or 1360x768). Some plasma tvs however use 1024x768 for HD Ready, which is however retarded.

You may also want to disable overscan/underscan on both the TV and on your videocard driver, to get 1:1 pixel mapping.

Well Uni exams, i had some free time, and decided to install catalyst drivers.

And guess what, now even 1360x768 don't show anymore!
Remember i'm using VGA output here, not HDMI nor DVI, as my notebook doesn't have those outputs.
Is there any way to add custom resolution on ATI cards?

Yeah, you should be able to choose 1366 or 1360.

There's a small utility called ATI Tray Tools that allows tweaking and unlocking features...
