Breath of Fire IV on ePSXe 1.7.0

I can really find no way to describe it this problem. And the only help I've seen for the issues are based on ePSXe 1.6, and while similiar, are not the exact problems that I am having.

There are certain magic spells (sleep and confuse, from what I've seen so far) and certain cutscenes that cause the emulator to slow down to an absolute crawl. Half of the time it causes the emulator to crash. There are a few hiccups here and there in speed, but for the most part, the game works fine other than this problem.

I'm running the game off an ISO. Here's what I've been using:
Pete's OpenGL Driver 1.77
*Window Mode - Resolution 1280x960, 32bit color depth
*Texture quality: b8 g8 r8 a8 - Slightly faster with some cards
*Texture Filtering: 3.Standard w/o sprites - unfiltered 2d
*Hi-res textures: None
*Gfx ram card: None (autodetect)
*Use FPS limit - Auto detect
*Off-Screen Drawing: 3. Enhanced
*Framebuffer textures: 1. Black
*Framebuffer access: 0. Emulated vram
*Alpha Multi Pass, Mask Bit, Advanced blending
-unfiltered framebuffer updates
- color dithering

Sound: Eternal Spu Plugin 1.50
Direct Sound, buffer size 64
*Audio out method: Thread
*Wait for XA Buffer is free
*Reverb: Neill's
*Update before accessing register

Ah, sorry. I'm running it with Windows 7 Home Premium. (64 bit)
Pentium(R) Dual Core CPU E5400 (2M Cache, 2.70 GHz, 800 MHz FSB)
6 Gig RAM

Video Card: Intel(R) GMA 3100

Basically, a premade machine with nothing outstanding about it.

In other words, I should have just tinkered around with the other video plugins I got with the emulator. I feel smart now. What's the difference between the three plugins that come with the emulator, and should I ever change what one I'm using?

In any case, it seems to have fixed the probelm. I still see the black area that was causing the game to crash, but at least now it's the game is running at normal speed, so I really don't mind it.
