US apporves targetting Americans

Source

Yes I know... it's yahoo. Some key points bothered me though.

Quote:
In February, the director of national intelligence, Dennis Blair, confirmed that US spy agencies had the authority to kill American citizens if they posed a direct threat to the United States.

Citizenship is "factor" that has to be taken into account, the US official said, "but it certainly isn't a shield for those who have plotted the murder of innocent Americans."

The US administration last month for the first time offered a legal justification for drone strikes against Al-Qaeda and Taliban militants in Pakistan and elsewhere, citing the right to "self-defense" under international law.

The CIA attacks by unmanned aircraft in Pakistan, Somalia and elsewhere have sharply increased under President Barack Obama's administration, with some human rights groups charging the bombing raids amount to illegal assassinations.
So, instant death penalty? I see Americans murdering Americans quite a bit without this reaction.

A direct threat to the US is very subjective...
Freedom of speech will not matter anymore I suppose, since anything bad directed at the government can be considered a threat to them.

I can see someone exposing a dirty little government secret, then getting assassinated over it while the US government labels him/her as a terrorist using a fabricated story and then justifying it with this.

But when they do, they'll just point to this law and say: But they were a threat to national security!

The people should never fear it's government, the government should fear it's people.
These kinds of laws seem like the start of the police state.

Solid quote there. When the government goes to great lengths to suppress it's people, something is terribly wrong.

Its not as much their fault as it is the fault of our corrupt/sold/dishonest/disloyal government that actually allows the drones to take off from local air bases.

*facepalms at the president's hideous face*

I don't know what people are really surprised about. Most countries around the world already do this. It's just that they don't go public about it.
