Two big problems with ePSXe
I have serious problems with ePSXe: 1) I would like to use native resolution of each game as my graphics card supports this (like 320 x 256 or such). I'm using the emulator on a real arcade cab with a Hantarex 9110 CRT. I have not found ANY solution to switch off stretching at all. If I set the resolution to 320 x 256 why is it not possible to switch off stretching completely? It is not necessary in such a resolution to do any stretching! 2) the only method of avoiding stretching is to use the P.E.Op.S. Soft Driver 1.18 - the picture would be perfect - but when I'm using this the ALT-key is interfering with Windows. I've never seen another emulator haveing a problem with this key (e.g. MAME, MESS, SNES9X or such). As there are only three buttons on my arcade cab for each player I need every key on it - including the ALT key... Can somebody help? Thanx! Last edited by ClarkKent; March 12th, 2010 at 16:31.. |

You may not get a clear answer about that here because nobody really cares about the original look of the playstation games, the plugins available aren't designed for this. I used to do some tests with soft15khz but didn't give it much time. Sorry I can't remember what plugin I used and what settings, but I remember I got it to work, it's not impossible. There's that never-mentioned software plugin: edgbla's Software Rendering Plugin 0.24 - EmuCR It lets you select 'native resolutions' in fullscreen mode. A bit heavy on the cpu and probably with bugs as it's still at an early development stage, but who knows, It might be able to do the job to some extent. EDIT: oh, and there's still the soft15khz forums: http://community.arcadeinfo.de/forumdisplay.php?f=142 They'll possibly know much more about that stuff.

My experience with many emulators shows that the ALT key is not a problem in other emulators. At least if they are in fullscreen mode. As there is no menu to access in fullscreen mode pressing the key should not interfere with Windows at all... The edgbla's Software Rendering Plugin is certainly a nice thing - it was my intention to try it but there are a lot of .dll's missing. So I downloaded one - after starting the plugin it notes that another one is missing - and so on and so on. I never got all .dll's as I was tired after a lot of downloading .dll's at some point. Man, I'm happy that I usually use MacOS X and not Windows... ![]() Is it really that difficult for the autor of ePSXe to include a non-stretching option that works in OpenGL mode???? |

Crap, I forgot that edgbla's plugins requires GTK+ runtime environment to be installed on your computer. Sorry. ^^ And, actually there's more than just one ePSXe author, I think it's a team and that Squall is part of it. But the plugins aren't developed by them I believe. ePSXe was made with 'playing psx games on pc' in mind, like most emulators. This is pretty logical as very few people (like you and me) still use low resolution crt screens and arcade hardware for gaming. Don't blame them for that please... because we are the curious ones asking for unexpected features.

You are totally right! ![]() So I request this: A "No-Stretching" option (same as 1:1 in the P.E.Op.S. Soft Driver 1.18 plugin) for the OpenGL plugin. And that the ALT key does not interfere with Windows in the Soft Driver 1.18 plugin - but if there is a "No-Stretching" option in the OpenGL plugin this would not be necessary! That's it!

Both opengl and software plugins are opensource, you are free to add these yourself. though i expect you'll find the issue is in the emulator and not the plugin. |

Believe me - if I were a programmer I would do this myself. So I request this if someone could do this. The autor(s) of ePSXe would certainly the best to do so...

Unfortunately this discussion does not lead anywhere. I simply request a "no-stretching" feature. No matter if the emulator can do this or the plugin.

The discussion has lead to you being directed to the plugin authors site.
