I thought Llano was just what the integrated graphics bit was called, didn't know it was an entirely different processor series.

Yeah I'm really looking forward to seeing what happens in the low-end laptop graphics segment with AMDs new chips.

That's a synthetic benchmark, right? The clock speeds probably weren't the same either, were they? I already sort of corrected him anyway. He overstated it a bit. The original discussion was about the Phenom II being slower than Core 2 (at least Wolfdale) clock for clock in the majority of things. I definitely wouldn't say a Core 2 Quad Q6600, especially at stock (where it's more likely to be much slower than what it's compared to), is something that'll outclass a Phenom II.

That is one of the most iffy sites when it comes to comparing anything. Their video card ordering is all over the place, for example. I wouldn't trust it as a real example of a specific detail regarding comparing the two.

There's a mobile Llano review on Anandtech. CPU performance was about what I was expecting, GPU performance is nice though . The most surprising thing for me is the very low power consumption.

NICE. Llano should do great in the low to mid-end laptop sales.

I've read that the new AMD Bulldozer won't be presenting much of challenge for the latest i7 2600 processor...which is wierd concidering that the 2600 has 4 ordinary cores and the Bulldozer has 8. On the other hand, the new LGA2011 processors are monsters! 4 models, one quadcore/8 threads and three hexacore/12 threads with 8MB, 10MB, 12MB and 15MB cache respectively (the currently posted numbres, might change before release). AMD still uses dual-channel memory, the LGA2011 has a quad-channel controller - 8 DDR3 slots on the board. It seems that the only field where AMD is heavy is Graphics, and that is since they bought ATI... Still, AMDs prices are very low - just over 300USD for the high-end CPUs, under 250USD for the mid-range and less than 200USD for the low-end users. The AM3+ socket saves some money for not needing to buy a nes board, which is not something that Intel can say for itself - a completely new socket and chipset layout, with the only consolation that LGA1336 owners just need one more memory stick to start upgrading... And again it becomes the qustion of who has enough money and the absence of common sence to spend money on either one...like me!

Actually LGA1336 owners technically need all new RAM since they're running 1.65v sticks whereas Sandybridge wants 1.5v. Though they could underclock their RAM and then lower the volts, but that's not really a solution for the overclockers. But yeah the best Bulldozer can hope for is to close the gap, certainly not to surpass it. That said if I was in the market for a new laptop I'd definitely get me a Llano system. In a low-end system like your average laptop that sort of GPU performance is just too good to pass up compared to your commone Intel onboard crap.

Sadly according to certain info I got, Bulldozer is what happens when you tried turning a Phenom II X4 into a Pentium 4 with Hyperthreading. At least on normal everyday usage, on gaming, it's similar, and worse sometimes slower than the Phenom II X4. Ugh. That's pretty bad..... ![]() To simplify (Which is kinda incorrect) , the Bulldozer is a Phenom II X4 with the gimmicks of the Pentium 4. Whatever those advantages will be. Didn't expect AMD to copy the Pentium 4...... >_>

It isn't a Phenom II with Hyper-threading tacked on. What AMD is doing is vastly different from Hyper-threading. A lot of the rumors seem consistent in showing this could have similar (sometimes better, sometimes worse) IPC as a Phenom II, while having more cores. A lot of these "leaks" have sketchy surroundings too though, so it's best to wait before placing judgment. It is looking like things will stay much the same though... that AMD will be the budget option and Intel will be the performance option, and I dislike this because things are stagnating. Intel is able to rest on their laurels and charge more for things and slow down their progress. This is bad for consumers/enthusiasts who want advancement.

I know that's terribly inaccurate, but AMD bashers will say the same thing regardless, and currently, the 8 core version performs like a 6-core. But it's in reality it's has 4 cores with 50% more stuff and... And.... *head asplode* Of course, with the misses, there goes the possible good improvements, like from Phenom 1 to Phenom 2. I hope they can seriously improve it's performance for Piledriver. It's almost bizarre the CPU side of AMD is doing so badly while the graphics department is doing quite the opposite.

Indeed the chipset and gpu divisions success comes mainly from the ATi side, cause lets be honest they do a pretty good job in the chipset division as well and for a very good price.

That's the way our business world works. companies come from the death and hit the spot then a hype is created... after a while nobody remember who they are as they start losing there paths and comeback to where they come from. others are lucky enough to stay alive somehow but not many. if one of them is lucky enough to hit the spot again then we see those back in action.

well, Zambezi FX CPU is officially out, seems to sit between 2600K and 2500K performance and price wise tho there are times that its severely outperformed and goes head to head with the 2600K.

So in short, it is still the underdog. What else is new?
