Movie burning stuff?

Been ripping and burning my movies (my own purchased movies) for quite some time now as i dont like getting the dvds all scratched after paying money for them and dont like all the extras and previews on the real dvd, gets annoying, and it keeps it simple. I use Nero 7 (i know they are on like 9 or 10 already) but 7 is easy. And i usually burn them at 4x burning speed, lowest my drive goes, and for some reason it may get a little skippy when it plays or lose sound for a second or two. Is there a setting or a codec i may need to change? seems a little odd.

Second part. i know i asked probably 2 years ago now. But are there any programs like the nero that will let me make a simple menu and burn the movie to dvd?

Kinda hard to answer that without knowing which settings you actually set in nero? (surely there's more than just burn speed?)

It's quite expensive but there's nothing more convenient to use than TMPGEnc Authoring Works 4 by Pegasys Inc
TMPGEnc - Products: TMPGEnc Authoring Works 4

Thanks for the suggestions, i'll have to find a movie to burn and take a pic of the settings. Not really much to change. So convertxtodvd? is that free or have to purchase?

I only suggested an expensive commercial product by the way cuz Nero itself is an expensive commercial product.

Hmm Nero7...now that I think of it that many be part of the problem, outdated codecs never meant to handle today's movies.
