Youtube never fails to amaze me.

Right, I just finished uploading a 500 MB HD video scene of Transformers 2, it's the scene where Prime fights against some Decepticons in there.

Now ironically, my video gets the nice "This has been blocked in few countries" message (worldwide to be exact), so nobody can watch it. Yet the SAME scene, just in worse quality, is also uploaded on youtube by other people, and yet those don't have this problem.

Does anyone know why they would pick up the video I uploaded, but not the other worse quality ones out there?

I'd love to ask them, but I don't think that's going to work.

"Hi, I've been trying to upload a movie but it gets blocked worldwide right away after upload completion, but the same movie in worse quality by other people are perfectly fine. What's up with that? Why are you blocking my file and not theirs?"

I really doubt they'd answer me, considering it technically is copyrighted content, even if I'm not taking credit for it, and even if it's just a 4 minute scene. What I'm wondering mainly is how they pick my movie up and not the other ones, and if there's a possible way of getting around it. (There must be, otherwise those other people shouldn't have been able to do it either), considering it's just the same scene just different quality as I already mentioned..

Youtube has added a bunch of filters that check the title and description of newly uploaded videos about a month or so ago. Videos uploaded prior to that don't receive the check, however, Youtube's system seems to be scanning for infringing material on a case-by-case basis. When someone reports (usually the content's owner) a video, the user will receive an email notifying them that their video is now blocked.

More than likely, the low quality video that you mention will be removed in due time.

Yeah. It's strange.

Look at this:

YouTube - Transformers Revenge of the Fallen - Forest Battle

My title was: Forest Scene2.avi, and I cut 2 minutes of the original video. (The original was 4 minutes, and titled Forest Scene, and was blocked INSTANTLY after uploading). There was not a single hint in the title of it being Transformers 2. Even in the filename.

The Forest Scene2.avi however (the 2 minute video), didn't get blocked.
Their system is very strange and confusing.

I'm trying the full video again now with the name Forest Scene3.avi, in hopes of it working. Otherwise I'll just split the movie in 2 parts if that -does- work. (Hope so at least).

Could it also be possible that they have some system that also checks the first few seconds of a movie, and if it gets identified then it gets blocked? Maybe my 2 minute cut of it was way too random to get recognized or something.

Edit:
Full video (4 minutes), got blocked instantly again..... Why does it get detected right away? :/

I'll try uploading the 2 parts now. It has to be something in the beginning of the movie that gets detected.

It seems that Youtube also keeps track of the video's checksum information. I suppose you could try cutting off one individual frame of the video.

I think Youtube's whole Copyright package needs a complete overhaul.
The fact that I actually know a few people who have put up music videos of their own music, only to get a copyright notice (not a take down) on their own videos. And what bugs me the most here is that all it seemingly takes is a fake, albeit a good one, Copyright Claim sent to Youtube for a notice to be issued. And then, the options one has to dispute this are just pathetic, as there seems to be no option of "Copyright notice is incorrect, please use box to add real Copyright info"...well..sort of..or something along those lines, to dispute it. The onus is on you, not the person making the claim.

I used to write music for a Amiga demo group called Antiriex, back in the late 80s early 90s, not sure if any demos went global, they were kept local only, but I kept all my music in module form on Amiga floppy disks. I've since been able to retrieve most of it using 2 floppy drives and Winuae to play them back. I would like to put them on Youtube, but also fear that some irk would try to claim copyright on them. Although why, is anybody's guess as most of it sucked, and there was always so much one could do with 4 channels of 8-bit sound.
Also, you're never told exactly what it is thats Copyright. For example, I have lots of old Computer shows up, from mainly 1990 onwards, and I know who owns the Copyrights to most of them because I've written to them. But within the last few months I've had some copyright notices for Audio Content only, not video, and I have no idea where as there are no chart music, bands, or other jingles that may trigger a notice. Annoying.

Here's what I tried now:

Situation 1:
Cut the full 4 minute video in half.
Uploaded both parts.
Part 2 works, Part 1 gets blocked.

Situation 2:
Modified part 1, and removed the first 20-30 seconds or so.
Blocked again.

Situation 3:
Removed another few seconds to just have the actual battle in the forest, but not the parts before it...
ACCEPTED.

Situation 4:
Merged the 2 parts again, with the part removed that triggered Youtube to detect it.
It got accepted without being blocked.

Here's the final video:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bcGdcApWTzE

Edit:

Strangely enough, with another video, (Bumblebee vs Rampage and Ravage), the first part of the video is accepted by youtube, and so is the final part (battle ending), yet the middle part...... in between the battle is blocked right away. Can't really cut that part out either since it's part of the fight. Oh well..

They were covers for god sake!

I should take it as a compliment I guess but I just love damned music and where's the harm?
Really?

Youtube and Metallica are both asshats and I hope they drown in the semen of 1000 aids victims.

Yeah it's honestly ridiculous how they apparently pick up one byte of sound and just decide to block the video instantly from that, even if it's your own stuff. Stupid companies and stupid detection program.

the vids are bieng blocked as it has a keyframe that youtube knows it not allowed to show, the low quality vid goes through as it makes the keyframe no longer detectable.... this has been used in movies lately to know where movies are bieng pirated from, mainly cinema movies have this, but from what i see its on dvds now to prevent youtube uploads

Quick note.

That final video that was succesfully uploaded... It had over 600 views in a few days, but now after logging in my account, I was greeted with a giant red message box on every YouTube page, telling me I had copyrighted materials on my account, and if repeated incidents occur they'll terminate my account. I had to press the 'Acknowledge' button before being able to browse YT again. That was fun while it lasted.

YouTube has seriously gone downhill over the past year. Just move on to a better video sharing site.
