a simple question about "limit FPS"

what is the right thing enable "Limit FPS" or disable it on a system with PIII 550 Mhz, GF2 GTS, 128 MB RAM, SB16? what would be better or nearrer to PSX emulation speed enable or disable, I usually set the graphics to the best quality, sometimes medium

thnx

The FPS is a good idea even on a bad comp because somtimes (after leaving an area and b4 loading the next) the fps can go really high. If you're playing an NTSC game, set the fps to 60, and 50 for PAL. You can use auto-detect, but it doen't always work.

enabling FPS limit will makes your game run at correct speed.
so enable it if possible and set to auto-detect.
if you wanna set manually, 60fps for ntsc and 50fps for pal.

I normally use it set to 60 fps for my pal games, so taht they actulay run a a decent speed.
At other times I use it to limit my fps when I need to rush somewhere, like Pete does.

If you feel that games are running too fast you can use limit fps option if you feel otherwise dont use it.

I have a computer about this same speed and I find it best to limit the FPS at about 64-67 if I want the game to go the right speed. (60 FPS/NTSC)

Emulation usually goes too slow if you use automatic FPS. It should always be set a little higher. (55 for PAL, 65 for NTSC. That makes it go about the right speed.)

Sorry for the stupid question , but, why do NTSC and PAL games run at different FPS? Also, The same game in NTSC and PAL will will run differently from each other? WHY?

PAL is made for european tv's , which usually run at 50 hz.
in order to let the screen run smooth, 25/50 fps is better than 30/60

imagine, 30 or 60 frames per second on a screen that refreshes 50 times a second. yup...looks choppy.
So they make em run at 25/50 (usually 25, psx isnt THAT powerful )

NTSC is 60hz, refreshes 60 times a second, so that's where the games run at 30/60 fps.

Sometimes there are other small differences in a game, for example a different protection or other little differences. the emulator could "hickup" at those differences, making a US version of a game run better than PAL or reverse.

and in general, NTSC games are slightly smoother because they have those 5 fps extra...however, it's pretty hard to notice...and my monitor runs at 100hz...25/50fps looks better with that , with 4x25 being 100 and all

Thanks Samor,

I always wondered what the difference was. I didn't know that European tv's run at a different frequency....interesting. Anyway, now i know . Thanks again.
