Could someone explain Atari 2600 (2nd hand stores) pricing ?

I was shopping at a local 2nd hand gaming store and saw Popeye for the Atari 2600, $3.99, not bad, better than EBAY as no shipping is involved, then I saw E.T. for the 2600, $4.99.

What the frag? E.T. is NOT rare, it is NOT even a good game, and the store wanted $1 more for it than Popeye? and then I found Pitfall (which I purchased) for $1.99...

Now there's no freaking way Pitfall isn't as good as Popeye or E.T., and I'd think Pitfall didn't have as many copies at ET, which is priced higher than both games, more common, and a crappy game as well...

I could understand that maybe popeye isn't as common as pitfall, maybe someone would want popeye as a collectors item, but this pricing comes off as weird to me.

I would have priced E.T. @ $0.99-$1.99, Pitfall @ $2.99 - $3.99, and Popeye @ $4.99...

E.T is in high demand, due to the large publicity, popeye is a cartoon tie in, therefore they are hoping to squeze a higher price for it hoping to have a less video game versed person to buy it, and pitfall is so low, because well only gamers would have heard about it, and generally they know what its worth, and gamers like a bargin, instead of a rip off.

im just talking out of my @ss here, but it is as good as explentation as i can come up with.

It's likely the store managers know nothing about the system or the games and are just slapping random prices on them.

E.T. is widely regarded as one of the worst games of all time.

Which is why I find it difficult to imagine someone shelling out a Lincoln for it!

Of course I often wonder why anyone buys Atari 2600 games when its so easy to get them virtually...

But alas, I like owning my Atari 2600 and have fond memories of the system.
