University

I started this Thursday. And since it's 100 KMs away from where I live and conveniently close to where my father works at I'll be traveling with him instead of renting an apartment or something.

I'll have to endure an hour and a half of driving(though I'm not the one behind the wheel) every morning, then find a way to spend my time until it is roughly 11:30 so I can go to a fast food joint and eat something. Then walk about 15-20 blocks to have 3-4 hours of classes each day(save Mondays and Thursdays, in which classes start at 5 PM and end at 8 PM), then do nothing until either 6:30 PM or 8:30 PM(again, depending on the day), when my father gets out of work and we go back home(another hour and a half).

As you realize, I either get home at 8 PM or 10 PM. Fridays is perhaps an exception, sometimes, as my dad gets off work early. Either way, all I can do then is take a shower, dine and go to sleep almost immediately afterwards. Weekends will be the only time I'll be free from now on, apparently.

(For those wondering, I'm studying Computer Engineering, or whatever it is called in wherever it is you live).

So...discuss(anything university/college related).

That really sucks. I'm lucky enough to have my university about 20 minutes away from where I live, so I can live at home and go home in between breaks. But at least you're getting an education and that's worth everything. I'm proud of you, Matis. ^^ Also I realize how difficult computer engineering is since I have a couple friends who take it. You must be so smart!

I'm majoring in English Teaching for Secondary Education. I had to stop going to school this semester though for medical reasons, which makes me very unhappy. Hopefully I will be able to take some online classes during the summer and fall and get my associates by next year.

I hate being sick!!!

Sadly, it's not an option at the moment. The university offers no kind of accommodation, and apartments are kinda expensive(rent or otherwise). Plus, none of my friends actually graduated from high school with me(and those who did decided to go to other universities in different cities).

My situation will either chance sometime during July-August or early next year(depends on where my friends decide to continue their studies and whether they are willing to share costs for an apartment).

Oh man, that must be tough.

This reminds me of one of my old high school buddies. He lived in a town outside the city so it would take him almost 2hours to drive to school in the morning and 2hours to drive back.

It'll be tough, but hang in there You'll probably find little things you can do in between when you don't have a lot of studying or work to do. Why not go to the campus gym for a bit? Being a little physically active leads to better concentration in your studies.

Campus gym? Nothing of the sort, sadly. I could go to a gym, but I just don't feel like it, for some reason. This university is composed of several buildings, all spread apart through the entire city. There's one for those pursuing medicine, one for engineering, one for law and so on.

Everyone attending this university, regardless of what they will study in the future, has to go through their junior year in a different building specifically for juniors. The only one thing this building offers us(classes aside) is a library, and it doesn't even have algebra books(so you can guess how crappy it is).

This whole "junior" system was made for the sole purpose of "filtering" students. That way those who really have no will to study or are simply incompetent are stuck on junior year, give up and don't become ****ty professionals. Plus, it brings cocky kids back to their senses, showing them that life is harsh and that they can't always get what they want.

So far, I have passed two out of six classes this year(those being Introduction to Scientific Thought and Introduction to Society and the State. Basically, History and Philosophy classes with different names). Algebra, Mathematical Analysis, Physics and Chemistry left to go.

This university offers a neat little system that lets you take some of the classes before you even finish high school. I made use of it last year(my last year of high school) to get two of the classes out of the way(mostly because I knew it'd be hell this year, and knew that two classes less per week would really help me out).

So no, I didn't fail the other classes(yet >_>).

Hey Matis,

I don't know how it is like with colleges over there, but is there any places on campus that can keep you entertained? There's restaurants, a bowling alley, stores, and other things, that are on my campus that help keep me entertained between classes if I choose instead to stay on campus instead of going home.

I wish there were. Sadly, I'm stuck at my father's office until the class starts(before which I have 10 mins of driving from the office to the university).

I've got literally nothing to do here, and can only use a PC(like now) when it isn't being used. And it doesn't even have speakers.

I try to keep myself occupied with reading and cellphone+headphones, but the battery only has so much charge. >_>

But hey, the topic is not limited to me. Everyone, post your experiences, what your university/college is like, classes you go to and such.

Lol, I know...it's just that...I'm not able to talk about college right now.

There's no places for people your age to gather and socialize? Like, a coffee shop or anything like that? There is a small building for people that want to learn about a specific religion go to. And for the most part, it's a place to gather where the students can socialize. It's really fun when we all get together in between breaks and someone brings a deck of cards and we get to play games with everyone and make friends. ^^

This is the capital of the country. There are hundreds of places like those. None are too friendly, though. And I don't like coffee. >_>

Lol, well I was going to say, you don't have to drink coffee to hang out at a coffee shop. I certainly don't for personal reasons. But they have other drinks there. But if you say that they're not too friendly...I don't know how to help. I'm sorry.

Don't worry about it. I'll get used to this routine. Somehow. At some point.

That's what I was thinking. Lol.

Well, even though I haven't been able to go to college this semester, I still have my major in mind. What does everyone want to do for their majors?

Like I said before, I'm going into English Education for Secondary Schools. Let's hear what you guys are planning to go into/what your degree is/or what you're striving to get right now! At least I'm interested...X3
