Yup, might be a cause.
Another thing might be, something concerning thread-priority got messed up.
For me, the Deino-SMP client is configurated as "idle" (lowest possible), the GPU client(s) is(are) configurated as "low" (slightly higher).
Setting the GPU-clients to "idle" doesn't work for me. They get held back too much by the SMP-client (resulted in ~2500PPD). I picked "low" instead and it works fine for me.
With the SMP-client set to "idle" all other threads got priority, FAH only gets what is left.

the latest 185 drivers improve CUDA a fair bit.

Thats some really impressive progress there for sure skoreanime. Your system is quite a monster to make up for that much in such a short time.

To be honest I don't think my lead is so much due to the processing power of my 'farm' more than the fact that I'm running 24/7. Like I mentioned, these are mostly old CPUs.

The newer machines that members have certainly are giving astounding results with their GPU folding and SMP beta clients.

Hmm...seems 5904 is the /8000 WU I currently have paused.
SCHUMI_4EVER: To be honest I haven't been keeping up with your system (though I am aware that your system is relatively new). The suggestions to go with a different driver for your GPU seem like a good place to start and is probably first thing to try.

Another point of interest is have you tested the stability of your system at close to 100% stress before in terms of running the CPU and GPU at 100% load? There may be instability caused by frequency and power discrepancies. I don't know if there are single tools to test both at the same time, but you could try using two different tools, and combine them.

For GPU testing, it seems like a good stress test is Furmark. FurMark: Graphics Card Stability and Stress Test, OpenGL Benchmark and GPU Temperature | oZone3D.Net If your card holds stable, I would test your CPU.

I would suggest running Prime95's torture test for 24hrs (or close to) to make sure that is the case. You know where to download this tool.

Following that, you would probably want to separately test your memory as well using memtest86. Its a boot up tool that you can find quite easily and running test 5 for roughly 8 hours is enough to see if your memory is stable.

After GPU, CPU and memory are verified, I would go ahead and try using the GPU and CPU (Prime 95) test at the same time and see if they would for 12 hours or so.

I know its definitely a pain in the ass to test for so long, but it does really help you pinpoint the root of the problem. If you have done all of this though, ignore my post

When a server comes back up, there's a huge rush from the clients to try and upload simultaneously. This causes the usual "Cannot connect to sever" errors, even if the server is back online. Stanford University's servers are horribly underpowered and can only handle about 100 concurrent connections.

Whilst I have not stress-tested it like that I know it's 100% stable, I have not had a single stability issue with anything and it's not as if I barely use the system, I routinely use it's full power.

I am guessing those WUs just use so much GPU power that it intereferes with Vista's Aero.

I understand that it may be a lot of trouble and the incentive to run Folding@home perfectly or to find the root of the problem may not be for you a worthwhile pursuit given the resources that it requires . That said, even the machines at IBM I won't say are 100% stable until I've personally tested them to engineering principles

I run my computer 24/7 too. I just pause the GPU clients when I'm on and then just leave them running when I go to sleep or I'm outta the house.

I'll probably shut it off during the summer days though, when I'm out. I'll leave it on nights that are cooler though.

I'll have a GTS 250 rig up and running hopefully tonight. If not, then definitely tomorrow to add to the folding team.

Lets aim for a triple digit spot now!

Ooops, I did it again...

Seems to work flawlessly with that new "GPU2 NV MT-Core"-Units instead of that "GPUv2 Gromacs-Core"-Units.

The GTS 250 rig is holding up nicely. The fan on it gets quite loud though, I can see why people who own the GPUs are clamoring for an aftermarket HSF.

Hopefully I can add the PS3 to the F@H family later
