Cool Amd 64 X2 5400+ BE

After looking at OC results from Toms Hardware Guide and various reviews/ posts regarding the X2 5000+ Black edition, I picked up the X2 5400+ Black edition. Since Toms was able to push the X2 5000+ to 3.4, anyone know if the 5400 can break that limit? I'll be running a Zalman 9700LED on it so cooling won't be an issue. Abit AN932X Fatality is the motherboard. Most reviews have it from 3.2-3.4 so I'm just curious. I'll post my results as well.

Cooling won't be an issue? If you hit 3.7 with it without out the cooling chip frying, ill be mighty surprised

Not every chip clocks the same. I would say a safe oc for you would be 3.3ghz

Ok. Obviously, there's gonna be a limit. The cooling not being an issue was in reference to that I've got a solid air cooling solution for it and not some crappy ineffective solution on it. The max temp for the 5400 BE is 72 C. according to the amd website. I plan on keeping it mid 60s under load at most.

Then don't expect to see miracles. The be stepped procs heat up VERY quick....so stress testing is rather important with them.

Yep. 3.2 is the standard limit. 3.4 is fine. 3.6 is very good. 3.7 is insane.

And.... I didn't knew a 5400 Black Edition existed. I thought it was only a 5000 Black Edition. Wierd.

The 5400 starting at 2.8 vs. the 2.6 that the 5000 started at and both being 65W was what had me asking the question. The 5400 is also a Brisbane G2 rev vs the windsor G1 that the 5000+ was based on. While I'm not very experienced with OCing, I'm not stupid either. I'm keeping my expectations within reason and doing a fair amount of research and asking questions. Was simply asking if the limit of the 5400 was the same as the 5000 or not.
Phil, are you irritated with me asking or is it just me? Both posts seemed a bit aggressive.

Im being a realist dude, Chill out. The only member im aggressive towards is Rap. Dont look at others results as your guide, it will lead you to a roasted chip (useful though, you should try grilling hamburgers on your heat sink

I'm cautious. So I'll be baby stepping the 5400 like I baby stepped my 3800 from 2.0 up to 2.5. I guess the initial question was does anyone have a 5400 BE OC'd past 3.4 stable or know someone who does. Like if it was a possible achievement. Not something that I will get to, just a possibility.

3.2Ghz is a good place to start. I'm suggesting 3.4Ghz at max. But then that's up to you anyway.

I gained about 10fps avg. with Bleach Battle Bladers 2nd. Not bad. Still waiting on the RAM though. I'll be going from 2GB to 4GB. running Vista 64bit. Should I expect a performance gain in PCSX2 with the RAM increase? Staying with DDR2 800 as it's the max that the 590SLi chipset supports. I know the system will run smoother over all but, wondering if it'll affect PCSX2 or not

Nope. RAM doesn't affect PCSX2 at all.

I remember only using 512MB then changing to 4GB and no performance difference.

Also, I realized that I neglected to install the dual core optimizing driver. After doing so and installing the new RAM, I'm steady at 38ish FPS. Significantly less stutter and the over speed is improved.
