What's the difference between standard and extended texture filtering?

I am trying to get the plugin to be at its best quality, yet retain a high compatibility. Which one should I use?

I've always used 4 (extended unfiltered 2D) for games with 2D backgrounds and 6 (extended w/smoothed sprites) for completely 3D games (kinda rare on PSX). So for the most part, I just keep it on 4.

Personally i use a shader filter that is similar to 2xSai, that i found after a lot of search, without any other kind of filtering usually, because it introduces various graphical glitches in a lot of games. It is the best compromise between graphical quality and glitches. I use standard and extended texture filtering only if it improves picture quality without introducing any problems.

2xSaI sucks on WS LCD's, Super 2xSaI and Eagle is better.

Extended usually looks better for low resolutions, but not filtering sprites would make the biggest difference.
