Hahahaha, those prices are ridiculous, we would need at least $2000 dollars to buy one of those systems (without using old parts that is), I can't even imagine what pre-built comps will cost with those things in them.

Nice find though, didn't think people had i7s laying around already.

It's for sale here as well but the average consumer won't hail it yet. C2D does its job nicely, so it's certainly not worth the costs. I'll pick up a Q8200 this afternoon, why spend so much more for something I won't need?

I remember someone saying in the other thread that i7 would have tiny 256KB L2 caches But that sure doesn't seem to be the case here.

$300 for the 920 is completely reasonable. You can't expect a full budget line out of a brand new architecture.

add to that a new motherboard, a new 3x1gb of ddr3 (even if it isn't mucher better than ddr2), a new cooler for cpu, and after spending all that you will still probably have incompatibles problems.

Early adopters know to expect this.

i would say that's a dumb thing to do but for us to have a real notion of cons and pro there will be always the need of guineapigs. Buhahahaha...

For me Hardware maybe not, but being the first one to play Diablo3 and Starcraft2 that would be fun.

Meh, no point in replacing my motherboard just for a new CPU. Although I'll probably get one in the coming year for more professional work down the road.

Well even for early adopters this is cheaper than when Conroe came out in August 2006. So it is worth every penny.

It depends. Everybody with Conroes, Allendales, Penryn and Wolfdales will have to replace their motherboards. For a decent one, that's another couple hundred at least.

...For the time being. I say Q1 '09 we'll have the first budget motherboards (along with probable budget i7s).

CPU upgrades almost always require a new mobo. There's almost always a chipset change by the time you're ready for a new CPU.
