Your favorite OS?

Thought it would be nice to have a poll like this once in a while Get around to discuss Linux, Windows and some other popular OSes for their ups and downs.

Let the voting begin!

I think I'll wait for others to vote before proceeding myself

I seem to recollect a similar thread existed, and another with a poll.

Anyway, I probably prefer Ubuntu, Mandriva and (shame) Windows XP, from among all picks I had the occasion to stumble upon.

- XP: well, pretty much obvious why.
- Ubuntu: the GNOME desktop. The standard on which Linux versions of applications should standardize on (Ubuntu clearly has the most mindshare now, so ensuring your apps run on that is a wise decision).
- Mandriva (Powerpack editions, specifically): reference KDE desktop. A bit more innovative compared to openSUSE (subjective).

Edit: similar thread, without poll

Good thing I enabled multiple choice then! I'm gonna vote for Linux too (Ubuntu to be precise) just because it runs great off the Live CD, gets rid of virii in a second for me, and stands as opposition to Microsoft's corporate strategies

Windows ME and then Windows XP.

for everyone who got problems with ME, i found a fix. not to mention it ran most MSDOS apps without having to boot them outside of windows.

Well I really loved 98SE, but I would say XP has now replaced it over these past few years as my favourite.

I am willing to give Vista a chance though so I shall not vote just yet seeing as me switching to Vista is like 2 weeks away.

XP x86-32, SP3
stable, has the most compatibility, and fast.

sure it lacks some stuff, but it still beats any OS thats out for now.
i wish Vista wasn't FAIL, cuz its a bit tiring staying with the same OS for all these years.

Where is Windows ME?!

I voted for XP, 2000, and Vista since I think they are the same relatively.
I wouldn't upgrade one to another if I need to spend extra money, but if I have to pick one, I'd pick whichever is the newest one, Vista in this case.
[Assuming all have the same driver supports]

If the support is as it is, I'd get Vista, still.

Wish I could edit the polls and add ME to the list, I thought it'd make thing more complicated since no one liked it. Could ask an admin to do it or you'll just have to make do with the options present

Windows 95. My first real OS and it was a mule of a system back in the day and it is a mule of a system now. Lasted me 7 years and it never really gave me any trouble.

Windows98 was #1. I hate vista because it's compatability sucked. Even though I find the plug and play technologies quite essential now adays, I feel that Windows (as a gaming OS) went downhill after Win2k was released (except for the kernel related additions). Win9x was an excellent gaming OS when DirectDraw/Direct3D began to take off, and back in those days, a game depended on creativitiy and originality rather than graphics. I really miss the old DOS/Win9x games, they're so much better than the games we have now... I haven't played a really interesting PC game since Doom3 -_-

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention WindowsXP 64-bit edition. It's great. Slight compatibility loss though.
