Help overclocking
Hi to everyone. I am in need of help to overclock a processor for the first time. I checked a guide, but when the computer wouldn't start and send me "bad bios" messages, I chickened out ... So, I would like to know if somebody has a system like mine and could help me with the starting values like CPUVcore and such. I want to overclock it to 3600mhz. I'll put every spec of the rig.MB: ASUS P5QC PSU: Enermax Modu82+ 620w Processor: Intel e8400 Fan Cooler: ASUS Silent Knight @2300rpm GPU: Ati Radeon MSI R4870 Memory: Geil 2048 MB (2 x 1024 DDR2-800) Case: Antec P182 HDDs: 2x160GBs SATA Western Digital DVD/CD Burner/reader: Samsung WriteMaster I don't know if there's something else needed. Let me know if it's. I would be very grateful ![]() Bye |

This should overclock really well to ~4GHz no problem. Anyway, there's a link to my overclocking guide in my signature. There could be a number of problems: 1) high temps 2) too much voltage (try to stay below 1.4V) 3) RAM overclock 4) PCI Express frequency too high 5) 1 in a 10,000 chance: You just got a really crappy E8400 which won't overclock

We can discard the #5, as it actually overclocks if I let everything else than the Bus Speed alone. Gonna check your guide, thank you very much ![]() EDIT: Well, it seems it won't go stable at 444 FSB, when I test with Prime45, it won't even start the Torture Test Mode 2. I'm using 1.3v at vcore. Is that much, or few? We can discard the pcie freq being too high, it's at 100 mhz, and I'm letting the DRAM Freq at 800 MHz, although I can't actually select a free number with my board, is that or 1064 and such...
