Which Vista?

One again I am thinking further on building a new PC and I need to make a dicision on the OS, now I know Xp is better, but I would like to be able to take full advantage of any beefy card I may get so I need Vista.
Also I am fairly certain that 64bit is the way of the future...so I will have to run a virtual machine for older apps and my choice has to be a 64 bit OS.

I am just not sure whether it should be Home Premium, Buinsness Premium or Ultimate?

Any thoughts as to which one I should go for? I know Ultimate offers the most but do I really need everything it offers?

home premium offers everything you need, business really isn't tailored to a home user.
Ultimate is a high jump in price for two new sound themes and bitlocker

Just curious but what are Volume Shadow Copy and Rights Management Services? As I see Home Premium does not have them (thanks a lot of the chart btw).

Windows Vista includes a useful innovation to help you protect your data: Shadow Copy.

this feature automatically creates point-in-time copies of files as you work, so you can quickly and easily retrieve versions of a document you may have accidentally deleted.
Basically, I can right click on a document and revert it to a version from a few days ago like an essay or spreadsheet

Rights Management Services is basically drm for all files,
you can stop people from opening files and companies can stop you from accessing their property with it

(like 30 day trials for programs being RMS vista locked)

Home Premium sounds like the best choice if you don't want all the eye-candy stuff from Ultimate.

Dreamscene (moving wallpapers), Media Center and other minor things... but I guess you can live without that. ;p

Yeah I won't need the media center as I will have the PVR software of my TV card for that.

Dreamscene sounds nifty though...but not R1000 extra nifty (like 120 USD extra).

Indeed, and actually it is nothing new. VLC and BSplayer can display videos on your desktop like they were wallpapers, just like Dreamscene.

What's causing that 30% core usage though?

Nehalem or up where spare cpu resources are aplenty at little heat/energy cost

Yeah, perhaps they should dedicate a core out of eight of the Nehalem to do background and system programs, and leave the 7 cores to active programs.

The general gamer would find Home Premium the cheapest yet satisfying one (Basic is too crippled for the price).

If I was coerced into picking one, it'd be Business edition (best allaround set for home-biz use alike) or Ultimate.
