What is the future of home computing?

Hi all,
I guess this is more cut out for here then the hardware discussion. Post your thoughts as to what the future of home computing holds for us. What do you think will be the home of tomorrow, 5, 10 or even 50 years in the future.

I personally think that advances will be made not just in PCs but in every frame of life. It might even be true that nano-technology really kicks off and we'll have super powerful nano-processors implanted in stuff like chairs and desks even. And new carbon fiber building materials will be self-repairing (as bizarre as this sounds, it is actually possible), so if you dented your car, the next morning you wake up, its gone! How about that?

Any other opinions, theories and/or ideas?

ASP (Application service provider). Cloud computing, if you prefer (also known as "all your data are belong to us")
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Applica...rvice_provider

Everything you do on "your computer" will be remotedly executed from ASPs (this will be a major roadbloack to piracy and "uncontrolled environments" -people's computers, on which they can still do everything they wish, today, in a noncentrally-enforced rules way)

That's not very nice! It basically means all your private data, info, etc etc etc will be fully accessible to some jerk sitting in front of a master server.

I think it'd be much better if all PCs were servers in their own right and could share all the data they wanted to (well that already exists but not that extensively) with a closely knit global network of inter-connected PCs, basically an upgrade of the current internet only that we'd have super-fast connections so, suppose you want to play a game your friend has, he just opens the file up for sharing and wiola, you're playing games on 64x AA (not too far away I guess) at 100fps!

The greatest advancements I'd like to see are in the field of portability.

I see it now, a super fast gaming PC in your pocket, tiny microphones in your ears and a 72 inch virtual monitor stuck to a pair of stylish looking glasses! 100 cored proc, 100 GB RAM, 50 GB graphics card, molecular sized transistors aaaahhh!

ASP means pretty much any device with internet connectivity will have access to the same capabilities, features and data.

Why bother sneakingly installing (and force selfupdating) copyprotection for software if they can just revoke your account from a server and make you regret it as much as you can? (possibly also with access to your own creations) (Photoshop Express included a similar clause in its terms of services, which was proven unacceptable by graphic professionals. Supposedly you "give" ASPs the right to do whatever they wish of your data. Pretty unbalanced nowadays. Where are the pre-2002 days...)

To be honest...I would rather not think about it....

I love to be on the cutting edge and play with new techno toys with all sorts of new whistles and bells...but the future scares me....
