Is the 360 going to drop backwards compatibility?

I've heard from an anonymous Electronics Boutique sources backwards compatibility won't be in future XBOX 360s. Having grown fond of several XBOX games, I was hoping to play them on the 360.

Has anyone else heard about this?

I don't think they would drop it, only stop adding to the list of already compatible games.

The only reason Sony dropped ps2 compatibility was because it costed way too much.

Since the xbox original releases on xbox live are being released periodically, it is doubtful that backwards compatibility will be removed from newer consoles.

You can only trust certain EB employee's... some are just trying to make a buck out of you by scaring you into buying a console.

To be fair I only use the BC in 360 for Ninja Gaiden Black and Fable. I do hope for Chronicles of Rid**** to be added to the list as well, but world won't end if it's not added

BC seems to be a very touchy subject in both Sony and MS camps. Nobody rants about Wii, but well, the BC is almost 100%

For initial console sales when games for the previous generation are still coming out, and until a solid library exists.

it would be a pain if they did drop BC but i still have my softmodded xbox that reads discs fine so it's not going to be a problem if they do

and there lies the problem. micro$oft stopped with EVERYTHING that had to do with the original Xbox including game development. They missed millions cuz of that, yet i think they aint gonna do diffrent when they release their next console.

I dont see a reason for them to drop it.

Plus, arent they selling Xbox games on live? it doesnt make sense if the drop BC and keep selling original Xbox games. That EB source must be pretty stupid.

Honestly I could care less. I play Xbox1 FAR more than 360 anyway. If I wanted to play an Xbox1 game, I just put it in my Xbox1. 360 can NEVER replace my Xbox1... EVER! It doesn't play [many] of my favourite games so why would I replace it with a 360?

Sorry for the rant, but dropping an Xbox for an Xbox360 just doesn't make sense IMO.

the only main reason for giving up the Xbox1 console to play the same games on an xbox360 is the controller

should it not be possible to connect the (wired) xbox360 controller to the xbox1?
(hard-modding?)

Other then that I can't really see any benefits of using the X360 (unless it's modded, in which case you could perhaps run more mods in Morrowind GOTY, etc.?)

I like the Xbox1 controller way better than the 360's. I have large hands and can press the black and white buttons with ease (because I'm not to lazy to move my hands) .

As for connecting a 360 controller to an Xbox1, that won't work because the hardware different and Xbox1 expects a USB1.1 interface, 360 uses 2.0 and the descriptors for both are different (AFAIK). Xbox1 doesn't have plug-and-play features similar to that in a PC or even a 360 itself and it's VERY hardware specific. Xbox1 has a very limited number of USB drivers (with the XDK) with only a limited number of supported devices so unless you write your own for certain things. I've worked with Xbox1 hardware for years and this is what I'd say (though I may not be 100% accurate).
