A few problems

Ok – I've got a few questions and I didnt want to make a lot of different threads >.>

first – I cant get my computer to read(or even recognize) playstation 1 discs
I can rip ps2 discs and every other kind just fine – but if I put a ps1 in the drive it doesnt even show up
The computer doesnt even think I put a disc in – it keeps saying the drive is empty
I dont think its the operating system - i have both vista and pclinuxos installed on this computer - and neither recognize it
I couldnt find anything on google like this problem either X.x

second - when i run chrono cross my characters seem a little... squirmy
video
iv only tested this on vista - mostly because on linux multi-platform things are less supported - and I cant even get the game past the character name screen X.x(or config anything)

and third - if I bought a playstation to usb converter(like this - would I be able to download a patch or something to get it to work on vista?

and heres some pictures of my computer stats/emulator config
emulator
some specs
computer model

for the OGL2 config you need to set render mode to 2 when you are using those internal resolution settings. for the compatibility section you should use either a 2-2-1, a 2-2-2, or a 2-3-2 (depends on the game sometimes). can you state what version of epsxe you are using (i dont want to suggest anything related to the spu plugin you are using until i know that) and what game fixes you have enabled in the video plugin config? and where do you live, do you use PAL games or what?

while i dont use vista myself and i use a real pc gamepad for use with anything related to emulation, i am pretty sure something like that would work. just make sure you have the adapter and that any drivers that may come with it are installed.

im using version 1.7 (1.6 has the same problem as linux - black screen when I get to the name screen)

the game fix box was checked - but nothing was actually enabled in it

i live in pennsyvania - and i tried all 3 combos for the compatability (with the #2 render mode) and no differences

video settings
files

the file names are hard to see in the small window - click fullscreen to adjust the size and make them readable

how are you playing the game at the moment, an image? what format is it in? chrono cross has issues with 1.6.0 that make it unplayable for the most part, this was corrected in 1.7.0 but before that you would have had to use 1.5.2 with the "odd/even bit hack" game fix enabled (to correct a freezing issue). have you tried using that version yet?

edit- do you have anything like FSAA or AF being forced onto your applications/games via your nvidia control panel. disable or set them to "application controlled" if you do. and do you have any other games like the FF series (since 7-9 look similar to CC style-wise) that you could test to see if this same issue occurs in them as well? and btw if you dont really care about the enhanced visuals the OLG2 plugin can pull off, you might find using another emulator like psx easier to setup and use.

I hadnt tried that version before - but i did just now and it didnt make any changes

the only other game iv tried is final fantasy 7 disc 1 - and that seems like it works fine(i didnt try to go through it yet) - but if i use any of the other video plugins it freezes when the first battle starts
ff7
if it is jumping like in chrono cross - its not as noticeable(the game runs normal speed - the recorder just made it slow down)

both controls were set to application controlled - i turned both off and it didnt make any improvement

ill try the other emulator in the morning - im getting tired X.x

mmh - i tried both settings and it didnt work

and when i use anything but theopen gl2 final fantasy 7 freezes in battles - thats why i dont use that one

and i tried the psx emulator - i know its suppost to be simpler - but i got alot more problems than epsxe X.x... i couldnt even get it to start any of my games

edit - this is the final fantasy 7 battle freeze

after i turned the recorder off - the battle finally started X.x.. i guess it just takes awihle(iv tested it on other battles to - they all do the same thing) so this is the new version(the fight starts at 3:06)

more edit - i think i turned the sound up to high X.x... you might want to be careful about that

also - it seems like all the games have the same problem - but the way the chrono cross characters move its alot more noticeable(you see a really little bit of it when your in fights in ff7) and iv seen a little in 1 other game - so maybe its skipping frames on the character models?

there is a game fix for ff7 in the video config, make sure you enable that. and since you are using 1.7, disable the fps limit in the video config because 1.7 contains an internal limiter that can conflict with the one in the plugin.

edit- btw you said you couldnt get your computer to recognize psx discs in the cd drive, can you tell me what the make and model of your cdrom/dvd rom drive is? and have you tried out any image softwares like ISObuster or alcohol 120 to see if that actually detects something in the drive?

yeaaaah - im gona want to keep that fps limit - i think my game went 20x faster without it X.x - and yeah i did have the ff7 fix enabled

im not sure of the model right now - ill try and look it up
and yeah - i used about 10 differnt programs(including alcohol 120) and nothing

its basicly the same thing as putting your cd in upside down

edit - i think the cd drive is "atapi dvd a dh16a3l"

you are using images right? try mounting them on a virtual drive software like daemon tools. use F4 to toggle the limiter on/off. and have you tried using the software plugin instead of the hardware ones?

i can mount them - but since they're ps1 images that doesnt really do much X.x - i did it on alcohol 120 and magic disc(im sure i could do it with some of these other programs to)

epsxe doesnt give you any options when you say run cdrom - so im guessing it just does the hardware one - which just gives me a black screen

i ment the software video plugin which you can get here. what format is your image in because there are some formats that do not include subchannel data which is needed for most psx games to work. in addition, some games will only work right when mounted on a virtual drive and run via that method. btw what is the cdrom plugin you are using?

i dont think its the image file format X.x.. 3 differnt games - 3 differnt formats .img .bin and .iso

for the software plugin - i had 1.17 instead of 1.18 - but i dont think thats gona make a huge difference

this is the game with version 1.18 - its very... pixely X.x

i dont think iv done anything with the cdrom plugin before - because im sure i would end up breaking it X.x(even if thats not possible - i would probably be able to do it)

and about the virtual drive - thats what i meant before
i mounted the games on the drive - and when i hit run cdrom it didnt give me any options about which drive to use - so i just ended up with a black screen that im guessing it is trying to read my empty drive

the reason you got the black screen is because you need to configure the cdrom plugin so it is looking towards the virtual drive. have you tried using the mooby2 plugin?

i just tried it - it starts the game fine(i think it used its own virtual drive) but it looks exactly like the software plugin - really pixely
