how do you figure that?

crysis is far more demanding and detailed

they're both fps games with cry in their name,
the similarity ends there

apart from the zomg you can shoot trees,
but that'll be in every fps game for a while now as it's the in thing

I'm more excited about FarCry2. FarCry was superb and still is and better than Crysis imo. Looks like this engine is better than Crysis' too but difficult to say based on this demo (and the others I've seen) which could be ran by GT200 SLI or something.

don't mind me,
I just get testy when people start comparing everything to crysis

FC2 has nothing to do with it, they both have nice graphics and that's it
~ ones an alien space shooter with super powered ghey suits

~the other is a freeform hitman game set in africa

as for graphics - FC2 is more optimised and is less detailed than crysis
you'll be able to max it with a 9800gtx (not sure about AA though)

This info is from various pc configs used in demos and developer comments about hardware required

if you compare the two games textures you'll notice that FC2 has pretty low res ones
as stated in the first tech demo 2 months back

but FC2 has some awesome lighting and environment effects that cover up the low res textures,
high quality low res textures I should say

I often think Crysis IQ is overrated, at least IQ/performance wise. Needs AA to look fine too and that kills performance dramatically like every1 knows as otherwise trees looks like a pixelized mess.

Gameplay wise FC2 looks nice, don't like powerups and that stuff which thx god this game doesn't have.

when you're looking at a demo meant to display the technical aspects of the engine, it would be kind of stupid to base a comparison between the two games on their respective premises.

I thought I was alone in this view, the leaves on trees in crysis are some of the worst I've ever seen since ps1 games

Looks pretty interesting. The fire had been demo-ed before, but its good to have a relatively in depth look at what's actually happening around the game. Remember, this thing is for Xbox and PS3 too, so if what the guy is promising is actually true, then it'll probably turn out to be one of the best looking games on either platform.

Leaves on trees? Mehh... just looking at some trees from so far away makes me wonder what bogged the game down in the first place. IMO, it doesn't look much better than COD4, and also IMO, COD4 scales and plays much better. Crysis is just a demanding mess of codes.

I second that. COD4 has one hell of optimized engine, still looking good for todays standards.
Ill never play crysis....

The one thing that I find weak with COD4 is the textures. Aside from that its great... 1680x1050 with 4xAA and no frame drops at any point is pretty damn impressive.

Crysis is really unoptimized, but that doesn't make it any less impressive. As a whole its a great game... Definitely one of the best (if not the best) of '07.

Okay I haven't watched this video yet, but all past Farcry 2 videos the polygon count was less than it usually is for crysis.

While the video does make it look better then Crysis, I have learnt not to trust Ubisofts videos anymore. The fire looks impressive, looking forward to this game, I hope they optimise the engine is all I can say.

That being said looking forward to it, Farcry was badass.

The best AI in a FPS I've encountered was in F.E.A.R. Those guys on the hard mode were ridiculous.

i doubt it.

looking at the demo aiton posted, it doesn't look like it runs very smooth. and they're probably using top-of-the-line GFX cards in SLI and stuff to make the presentation look better and to get better FPS.

and they shouldn't make an engine, and then optimize it.
they should optimize it from the ground up.
