N2O does not load anymore

Whenever N20 tries to load its main menu, it says the disc is dirty and to clean it. Well, its an ISO and with default plugins, I've tried the "Run ISO" command and mounting it and selecting "Run CD", but still nothing. It always stops midload with that error message. This appears to be a bug with 1.7 because if I drop the 1.6 exe in the folder and try that one, game loads fine everytime. Is there anything else that can be causing this or is this just a regression from 1.6?

No, because they should be no reason I need to - I have a perfectly fine ISO of the game that I've been playing for years. 1.7 can't read the ISO I made from it mounted, so the disc wouldn't be much different.

Why has 1.6 played it fine for years? Why would it say the disc is dirty? Can someone verify please? We've norrowed it down to the exe, so sound like a regression to me.

the reason im asking is because there was a real overhaul on the ISO feature that 1.7.0. uses. what im looking to find out here is if BOTH methods are not working. just because you mount an image on daemon tools and find out it doesnt work in no way means that playing directly from the disc will produce the same result. there are many factors that play into this and i dont feel like going through them all but if you can simply test the disc it will allow me to rule some things out.

Oh, I thought you were just wanting me to use the CD. Since you were just troubleshooting for me I gave it a try. Sure enough, no boot also. So it appears to have nothing to do with the drastic changes to the ISO system. This game just doesn't load properly anymore. Smeg!!

Might want to move to the "game compatablity" section...unless anyone can get this to work?

Here's a picture of where it gets stuck.

Seem to have something to do with the music. If i disable sound, it stops at a different point with no dirty disk message. Weird...

hmm, I'm going to have to add this to the FAQ.

If 1.6.0 works for you--use that. Why struggle with using 1.7.0 when all it does is crash? When an emulator gets to a very advanced stage (like this one), it often happens that new fixes also create problems that were never there.

When 1.6.0 came out, it was a revelation. They fixed so many problems and improved on a lot of things. The trouble was...they also created a crapload of other problems. Such is the nature of emulation. I recommend that you use whatever emulator works. I might be an extreme case, but I have every PSX emulator in several versions ready to try in case one doesn't work
