FFX works perfect GSdx-plugin 50-60 fps in VU skip but flickers, without VU 35-40 FPS

I looked up on the board and there was a fix for this, has something to do with the GSdx plugin -- but no link was specified. Does anyone have the link to it, or am I just forced to play at the 35-40 FPS

Stats:

8600gt
4gb ram vista
2.4ghz

laptop

GSdx versions up to 0.1.7 do not support frame skipping, and hence there will be flickering. Enabling interlacing may reduce the flicker.

GSdx 0.1.8 from the SVN appears to have stopped the flickering from VU Skip, but it has to be manually compiled from the SVN Repository as no support will be given on the forums for this version.

For me neither FFX nor FFXII can be VU-Skipped..The screen freezes to the last scene with the game running behind. That applies on the latest betas of both GSDX and PCSX2.

i think using the latest PCSX2 SVN, and the latest GSdx SVN you can use VUskip.

you might not even need the GSdx SVN... just make sure you get the PCSX2 SVN after they modified the VU skip code.

No worries. I fixed it before anyone could respond via PM or this topic. In my rage, I typed something in google that I can't remember, and found a Tekken 5 video stating it was 0.1.8 GSdx VU skipping... works perfect. Of course the fix is that it just repeats the previous frame, but I don't care. Now it looks fluent in 60-70 FPS. I'm very happy! I didn't think it was possible with only 2.4ghz.

Perhaps theirs hope for my PC build!
Would you mind listing your full specs? (AMD or Intel? What chip model?, Constant 50-60 FPS?)

I thought it would be assumed, but heres my full specs:

Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU T7500 2.20 GHZ (was mistaken with 2.40 GHZ)
4gb Ram
8600gt nvidia
Vista 32-bit operating system

Constant 60-70 fps, though I think you should get a Quad core, and 8800gt nvidia. Especially overclocking, it will bring you to perfect fps in any game. I can definately run FF12 in the same speed of FFX (or near, since I have tried before).

Just make sure you multithread in the GPU option, get 0.1.8 GDsx with VU skipping ALWAYS on, and adjust your graphics settings accordingly to the game you're playing. For ME that worked, just what worked for me.

I have an almost identical rig to Jamian's laptop:

Intel Core2 Duo T7500 @ 2.2GHz)
3GB RAM
NVIDIA 8600M GT
Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium

I'm currently running the 0.9.4 build, using the 0.1.7 GDsx graphics plug-in. My gameplay runs between 35-60 fps on FFX, depending on how many character models are on-screen at a time, but it seems to average around 40-45. My current GFX settings are:

Resolution: Windowed
Renderer: DirectD3D9 (Hardware)
Shader: Pixel Shader 2.0
Interlacing: None
Aspect Ratio: 16.9
D3D Internal Res: Native
Texture Filtering, Logarithmic Z and Alpha Correction (FBA) enabled
Wait vsync and Enable tv-out disabled
NLOOP hack enabled by default and grayed out

Audio settings with the ZeroSPU 0.4.4 plugin:

Time Scaling Enabled
All other options disabled

I enabled frame skipping (F4) during gameplay and went straight up to 60 fps BUT had the flickering issue. Other than switching up to the 0.1.8 build of GDsx (Which I have no knowledge on how to compile), are there any ideas on how I could improve performance or options I could try with my current settings?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

And I realize I'm taking a gamble since this IS a laptop, but I wanted to at least try, especially since I have an almost identical setup as the OP.

EDIT: Almost forgot to mention, I'm running the game directly from the DVD in my laptop.

EDIT 2: I have SP1 for Vista installed. (Oi, so many variables).

I used GSdx 0.1.8 SSE3 with vuskipping, and turned on Multithreaded mode. That fixed my problems. If you still have problems, contact me on msn/aim.

Starcore, it's your processor, you need around 3.0GHZ to get perfect FPS all the time, except the High roads and such will slow it down regardless, usually.

Also the Multi-threading thing in GSdx...I can't figure out how to use it, it's all greyed out. Is it only in DX10 mode? I'm to lazy to reboot into Vista. Just says "1" and from my sig, you can obviously tell...I have a Multi-cored system. Could be because no HT though.

It's definately his settings, because I always get perfect FPS on it. The VU skipping on GSdx 1.0.8 helps A TON, and so does multithreading.

i would like to mention that I have a Intel dual core t7200 with 2gb of ram and a geforce go 7400 and I had 60fps for more than 95% of my game play, not including highroad or the final battle. I used ver 9.4 in the beginning and it was slower but once I hit the svn build 351 and used the speed hacks it was great. All the while though, I never had my frame skipping turned on.

Pcsx2 ver 351
Peops plugin 1.8
GSdx 1.7-1.8

i know this is no main help but perhaps if you put your card on performance rather than quality you can also get a lot more frames?

Or do the use zerogs kosmos graphics plugin and then change the compatability mode of 256 color. hope this helps!!

That's the current Beta, right? I was searching around for a compiled version of it, but could only find the source, which I am completely inept at working with.

@Mkilbride: Well, I do understand I won't have PERFECT 60fps all the time or anything, the reason I was wondering is because my laptop is almost identical to Jamian's (Sans 1GB of RAM), and so I thought they should run about the same.

Strange, i'm able to use VUskip only with few games like Devil May Cry, Tekken 4, Contra. When I try to use it in MGS 3 or FFXII - image either dissapear or nothing happening, i cant get flickering so i could press F5 and play normally
