FF8 PC vs FF8 PS on ePSXe?

tell me whats better PC FF8? or PS FF8 on epsxe? cause I have the FF8 PC version and found out that PS version is much more in depth and has smaller character graphics than PC cause the PC version has only one resolution (640 X 480) and the epsxe has 800 X 600 but the PC versions graphics excluding the background is fine and better, will the epsxe give me better graphics than PS did?

Yes, ePSXe will give you better graphic from PS.
For me the PS version on ePSXe is better than PC version
Btw, I use 640x480 even playing in ePSXe....

Unless you enabled keep correct aspect ratio, the screen will be stretched in varied and sundry ways that aren't particularly noticeable (to me) unless you are running next to a correct aspect ratio screen. Other than that, the higher the resolution the less likely you are to notice the stair-stepping effect along edges at the cost of performance. From what I understand ff8 for the pc has higher quality backgrounds and movies, but the music quality has degraded since it is all rather cheap midi. The screen resolution has nothing to do with how big the characters seem on the screen though, just how pixelated. And I really don't know what you mean about the ps version being "much more in depth" as the plot and everything is exactly the same with nothing cut unless you're comparing jap ff8 and us ff8 in which case there may be some minor changes.

My pick would be PS FF8 under ePSXe, for the simple reason that you can speed through those annoying guardian force animations (assuming you have a fast computer). With Pete's video plugins, you can use the Home and End keys to toggle frame rate limitation when the frame rate is shown. Battles go so much faster when you can summon GF's at 200+ fps.

ok final question is the FF8 PS on epsxe complete i mean is it fully compatible? with no bug and glitches? cause i believe in PC version it's totally operational cause of the simple fact that it is totally a port. well for the graphics i have no problems cause I liked epsxe simply because of it's cutting edge graphics

Maybe FF8 PC should have had a plugin system like PSEmu's 8)
FF8 PC is a fixed piece of code which was built to run fast enough on Voodoo2, TNT2, Matrox G200 and possibly Voodoo1 (with some glitches).
Unfortunately all the art in the game was straight from the PSX, movies and fonts being the only exceptions (remember to choose hires fonts in the settings).

Videogames with a plugin system.. now that would be cool !

Look, was he asking for a bloody opinion poll on how good the latest final fantasy offerings have been? He just wants to play it, that's all. Couldn't Q3 be considered a video game with a plug-in system kind of? =)

No, it would be a hassle. Remember the old VGA days? You had to manually select your videocard from a list, and if your card wasn't supported you couldn't play (or you had to play in CGA/EGA mode). The sole purpose for DirectX is to have one general APIset to program games for. FF VII PC & FF VIII PC used specific drivers for each chipset (not actually Direct3D) and it was a huge hassle.

Did somebody say the MIDI music was degraded in porting FF8 from PSX to PC?

Whoever said that is correct, but I've got four words and one website address to remedy that:

Final Fantasy SoundFont Project http://ffsf.cjb.net

The people of this project (of which I'm their newest member) have got the music back up to nearly PSX quality. There's some minor work that needs to be done at this point (mainly stuff like the guitar wah in the boss theme, however me and another member named Samuel Slight have got that implemented, but not up for download yet), but in general the instrument samples are actually ripped directly from the PSX version.

Plus, you can check out the FF9 mod, made by yours truly.....but I won't get in to describing that. :P

But, there is one problem, and its a big one, with using the PC version route: FF8, as well as FF7, has big graphics problems on GeForce-based cards.

I've managed to avoid those problems 'cause I have a 3dFX card.....

I own the PC version, and the movies looks a lot better than psx's.
And I also downloaded the sound font from ffsf.cjb.net, the midis sounds great.

Luckily I have no graphic problems with my tnt2 m64.

It's the ones you get if you haven't installed the GeForce patch.

I can't run FF7 though, it quits out on XP

Yes, I said that the midi is better
But donīt compare gm with midi
If you have build in a Yamaha XG Card the sound of FF7 PC just rockz.
FF8 doesnīt need the card because itīs using Direct Music Producer so that if you donīt own a XG card wave samples of
XG sounds (and the chorus samples at the intro) are used as
midi instruments.
