comp just crashed 3 times in a row...

i know a lot of people still complain about vista being buggy...but this was just absurd. i tried turning my comp on today, and it got to the desktop and froze twice, then i got BSOD on the third time. it booted up, thank god, on the fourth try. i am wondering if maybe i have some sort of virus or something, because there is no way that vista is that unstable...right

?

this has never happened to me before, and i don't think its hardware related. usually crashes are due to weak power supplies, and mine is pretty high end. and the rest of my part are top notch (for my CPU socket anyway, read my sig.

has anyone else experienced these kinds of problems with vista, specifically vista 64 bit? is this "normal", or should i be worried?

Got a place to look up stop codes Kirby? I tried googleing a stop code once but that did not help at all

You can also check your event logs to see what happened right before the crash. Non-paged areas usually means a memory issue. You could also try restoring your system to an earlier state to see if that fixes the issue. Something may have changed on your system to start causing it.

Have you installed anything recently? Hardware/Software? Run some ram tests. There are some memory diagnostics that can be run from outside of loading windows.

i remember the PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA message, idk about the stop code. but it should be the same right?

my comp is working fine now though,

ugh, i don't want to have to get new RAM...what are some of those diagnostics?

memtest86+ for the memory

I would suggest a full format and reinstall before ruling out any of the hardware. Most likely if it is hardware, it will crash during Windows Setup.

ugh, reinstalling everything?
i hope to get a new platform before the end of the year anyway (RAM, mobo, and CPU), so i'd rather not do that if my computer will work, which it is now.

i will try memtest though and see how that goes...

edit: oh i have 64 bit btw, so will memtest86+ work on a 64 bit OS?

It runs from every windows OS's DOS bootup as far as I know so yeah it should work...

a reformat would take possible software and driver conflicts out of the equation....

better yet, dust off an old HDD and try installing Vista on that.

I spent the whole day yesterday fixing this error on my new pc (got it yesterday).

I was getting random BSOD all day.

Turns out the problem was caused by 2 loose connections, 1 to the motherboard and 1 to the gpu.

Check that first maybe

Edit : I was wrong its still getting bsods and is going back

My hdd never gave warning when it failed last time....instant BSoD death...everything was recoverable though...it was not able to boot, but the tech guy got it to load like a normal HDD...is an HDD useless if it's file structure becomes corrupt (which is apparenrently what happened to mine)?

oh jesus, hard drive failure? i sure hope not, i just got this one, a WD Caviar 500gb such and such not even 6 months ago.

i got it the same time i bought vista, maybe in november of 2007
i'll check the connections, since i get like 1 BSOD a month now on average, but it never bothered me since my comp works 95% of the time.

Bad Display Drivers (yes, they can cause a page fault)

technically, Page faults are normal, its only when they occur in areas not normally accessible that BSODS occur.

ok i got more BSODs!

this is the most recent one i got, which tells me to go here and download the newest version of ASPI.

what does this mean? according to the information on the STOP code on the MS website, only XP users should be getting this BSOD.
