My game runs too fast! How do I limit the frame rate?

My game is running at 80-90 frames a second when it should be running at 60 FPS. How do I slow it down?

You need to enable sync audio.

Is there any way to manually alter the frame limit?

Enabling sync audio limits it to 50 FPS when I want it to be running at 60 FPS.

Tried setting your refresh rate to 60Hz, forcing vsync through your video card drivers and then disabling audio sync?

If audio sync makes things run at 50VPS then that's the "right" speed. Everything else is wrong and will make the game run faster or slower than it should.

Are you sure? My copy is NTSC, and aren't NTSC games supposed to run at 60 FPS?

It's more complicated actually. Whenever you turn the Dreamcast on it reads the needed region info from its flash memory and boots using a specific configuration (that depends on the console you have and the BIOS settings you changed). Some games use that configuration while some others ignore it and use their own configuration.

Now you might ask "what does all that have to do with the VPS?". Well, the VPS limit is part of that configuration.

Enable Anti Aliasing and Antiostropic Filtering in your graphics card's display settings.

Huh? That would cause a performance hit. That is not the way to do it. With the audio synced the game runs at its correct speed. It does not need to be 60. Let the game run at the speed it was meant to.

If the audio plugin is Chankast's. I don't recall the Chankast plugin having any audio settings.

Tried it on a PC with AMD Dual Core processor, 2 GB RAM and Ati HD 3850.

The games ran too fast on it. Then using AA and AF max settings, there was no lag; the fps limit was like the desired normal limit.

Yeah, but he stated he was getting around 80-90fps. You were getting much higher than that with a 3850. If he has a lower graphics card (which I am 98% sure he does) the hit could be much worse. So while this may have worked for you, odds are for most people it will not have the same effect. Not to mention that there are some games that do not like it when AA and AF are turned on.
