Try the Direct3D 7 plugin (Petes D3D Driver 1.76) (as opposed to Petes Dx6 D3D Driver 1.76)

- VRam size: 0 MBytes

Framerate:
- FPS limit: on
- Frame skipping: off
- FPS limit: Auto

Compatibility:
- Offscreen drawing: 3
- Framebuffer texture: 3
- Framebuffer access: 4
- Alpha multipass: on
- Mask bit: on
- Advanced blending: hardware

in that case, take it back to the Dx6 plugin, but use the same settings i posted, its probably a result of Intels lack of Hardware TnL

i have switched over to the OGL2 plugin as of a few weeks ago but before i did, ff8 gave me no trouble when i played it using these settings with the d3d dx6 1.76 plugin:

Plugin: Pete's DX6 D3D Driver 1.1.76
Author: Pete Bernert
GFX card: NVIDIA GeForce Go 7900 GS

Resolution/Color:
- 1920x1200 Fullscreen - [32 Bit] (ignore my res.)

Textures:
- R8G8A8A8
- Filtering: 4 (or 0(
- Hi-Res textures: 0
- VRam size: 256 MBytes

Framerate:
- FPS limit: on
- Frame skipping: off
- FPS limit: 60.0

Compatibility:
- Offscreen drawing: 3
- Framebuffer texture: 2
- Framebuffer access: 4
- Alpha multipass: on
- Mask bit: on
- Advanced blending: hardware

Misc:
- Scanlines: off [0]
- Unfiltered FB: off
- Dithering: off
- Screen smoothing: on (optional, only use it if you are sure your system can handle it)
- Full vram: on
- Game fixes: on [00000001]
(enable any ff8 specific fixes)

for sound i use the eternal spu 1.41 plugin with the following settings:

i have the top 3 (out of 4 total) boxes ticked in the spu selection menu

in the actual config mine is set up like this:

audio device- directsound
buffer size- 80 (doesnt have to be this, so set it to your preferance)
audio-out method- thread

all 3 special game fixes enabled

"wait for XA buffer is free" enabled under the "misc" section

neill's reverb

and my cdrom plugin (this is only needed if you are playing from the disk obviously, if you are using an image dont worry about this) is the ePSXe CDR WNT/W2K core 1.5.2. plugin with subchannel reading from disk enabled.

btw, you said your image is a .bin, do you have the .cue file as well? it will not work correctly without one most of the time. so make sure you are doing your images right by following some of the guides listed here word-for-word. even if you think you are doing them correctly i still recommend doing a new on while using one of the guides as a reference because you could be doing something wrong or overlooking something important and you might not even be aware of it, and even the smallest little mistake in your settings can trigger serious issues in games so be aware of that.

edit- and if you want other configuration/troubleshooting ideas for this game you should probably check here and/or here.

yeah i have the .cue file thanks for the links.

I actually hit a snag while testing an error i've read about on this site
when escaping it froze up on me on a black screen

i've tested it a few times and it was delayed on a black screen after going to the spoils screen (exp, items, etc.) but it did work, not sure if this will cause some problems on the SeeD mission with the metal spider.

I wasn't actually looking for configs when i posted this but you guys have really helped me by giving them thank you and keep up the great work

so you are saying it wasnt really a freeze, but instead it was just a really long delay between the shift between the battle screen to the spoils screen? im not really sure what would case that. if you were playing from the cd i would say it could be related to your cd drive's read time but since you are using an image, im not quite sure. but the game does work now, correct?

edit- if i remember right the time limit is like a half an hour so you have plenty of time to haul ass. if you are going for like a really high score for your seeD rank at the end of the mission the delay might hold you back a little since the more time you have left at the end the higher your score is, but nothing to the extreme of getting a game over for actually running out of time.

yeah everything is working now and the delay is still there but less noticable no more freezes thus far as well. you only have to run once if you know how to dodge anyway.

I might just "kill" it and go for the 400 ap i can get off it =P

thanks again for the help guys, your amazing and if there was a medal i could give you i would.
