Problem with Final Fantasy 8

Hi everyone!

I just started to use this ePSXe, it worked fine with Final Fantasy 7 and i played it throught with no problem.

Now i started FF8 and i went to the Ragnarok (that "dragon" plane) at 3 disc.

When i have killed all those monster whose showed up there, and i went upstairs with that lift, and Squall goes to sit that Ragnaroks bench then its just stops and cdrom doesnt make any sounds and game just stops. I have waited about 5 minutes but nothing happens and i have tried to change plugins but no effects.

Might there be that my ff8 cd surface contais some **** that makes the game stop?

I have ff8 official version and i have ff8 copied version but those official disc save states and memcard saves doesnt show up when i start that copy disc, what to do? I want go through with that ff8 too =<

My computer is AMD Athlon +3800 X2, rightnow i have integrated Ati Radeon x1150 motherboard graphic card (that could make game stop too?) 3000mhz ram.

I would be very thankfull if someone would tell me what to do =)

you need to enable the FF8 "ignore small framebuffer moves" fix in the graphics plugin.

also make sure you have Read subchannel enabled in the CD plugin, since i believe Finland uses the PAL format?

That section is supposed to Trigger 'Eyes on Me' and a small cutscene occurs with Rinoa.

Getting EternalSPU and enabling the FF8/FF9 fix may help as well

Thanks for advices but game still freezes.

Here some pictures where it freezes and my plugins and settings if those contais something wrong... i put those ff8 fix settings, but no work.

This is where it freezes, Squal just sits on the bench shocked and Rinoa stands behind him with no right arm... nothing happens... Usually my cdrom makes some noices and light flashing on it but its seems like shutting down...

these are my video plugin settings:

cdrom plugin

Sound plugin

What should i do next ?

these settings work for me, though you may have to drop the resolution and filtering levesls on that graphics chip

the framebuffer settings are a necessity in this game

Hey is there any possible that i could move that ePSXe memorycard save state to my playstation (that game machine) memory card and play this game with my playstation on from that save where i saved?

And how i could do that, do i need some programs, or do i need only burn those ePSXe .mcr files to the disc and move those savestates to my Playstation memory card?

i would imagine since the process would just be reversed. but dont quote me on that, ive never done this sort of thing myself so im guessing for the most part here. i think you would use a dexdrive to transfer them from your pc back onto your ps. as for converting the format, i suppose the stuff on this site would help in that, since that is what you use when you are doing ps to pc converting.

I'm glad I found this post, I was beginning to think it was a problem with my disc. I tried the FF8 fix on the EternalSPU, lowered some of the framebuffer options, and even tried running ePSXe with -nomdec, but no luck. Any suggestions for someone using the OpenGL GPU? (OpenGL2 doesn't work with my video card)

This actually happened to me on my regular PSX while playing Final Fantasy 8.

I didn't find a work around for it, so I had to start my game over.

EDIT: ACTUALLY, it happened to me twice, so I ended up buying a new game from amazon, and then it worked fine

must be a disc error or something, because my original disc was pretty scratched in a spot

the section in question, has ALWAYS worked fine for me on both my PAL and NTSC copy.

its most likely the result of
Downloading a bad image... which itself is illegal anyway.
or
Using a bad disk / image ripped from a bad disk
Using an ISO, ISO's are bad for PSX discs since the subchannel data isn't stored

That or not ripping the disc properly. I've heard that ISO is the worst format to be using with playstation games, lack of sub-channel data?..
