Is the Intel 2 Quad Q6600 OC'd to 3.2 GHz enought to run any game at 60 fps?
with 8800 GT superclocked (factory overclocked) This is what I plan to upgrade to in the near future, and I'd like to how the dual core settings that you can enable in pcsx2 would respond to a quad core processor? I know it won't utilize all 4 cores, but I just wanted to know if there's any problems with it. Thanks in advance. |

There shouldn't be any prob with quad. PCSX2 will run as fast as on a dual core C2D clock-to-clock. But even 3.2 GHz won't be enough for all games - keep that in mind. But FF series, KH, RE4 and other well optimized games should run @full speed on that rig.

3.2GHz Core 2 Duo / Quad I'd say is able to play most of the games not constantly at 60 fps but at least at playable speeds.

You've got to be kidding me. It's not exactly the best out but it's close especially when overclocked. Well, I'm not upgrading for just pcsx2 so my choices won't change, but thanks for the help guys. What would it require anyway? |

Depends on the game i suppose,i have a quadcore @3.2 and a 8800 gtx and im currently playing through KH1,FFX,FFXII,Okami,Odins Sphere and they all run full speed. I suppose it helps that im using pal games at 50fps as sometimes the speed dips below 60 in some but not often. With KH1,Okami and FFX i have the internal res set to 3360x2100 (my monitor is 1680x1050) and only lose a few extra fps, i guess thats to do with the gfx card. |

youre upgrading just for pcsx2? then heck, get skulltrail and two Intel QX9755's and 4 8800 ultra's. that should do the trick. oh and 6 raptors, dont forget about them. just note-dont get pissed when kh2 fails to run properly

if you plan to upgrade in a month or twos time then wait 'till the price drop of the 65nm intel chips or buy a new 45nm quad

...which is aight, but not what he wants as he's not just going to upgrade for pcsx2. I would say wait a bit for a good deal on a great quad-core.

Well I own a 5200+ AMD Dual Core x64 and I play almost all Games I got (From FF to GoW2 cc.) on full 50 FPS Speed. But why spend 1000€ on a new high-end PC instead of buying a Chip for your PS2 that costs about 50€ and you can play there on fullspeed and almost all Games too. Or get a old HDD from your PC and put it in your PS2. Costs for that way around 100€ and you can play everything you want ! |

Just because he is asking how pcsx2 will run doesn't mean he,s gonna blow a boat load of money on a pc just for that. I have never owned a console and i don't want one, but there were games that i've always wanted to play and now i can (see my last post above). I upgraded 3 months ago and pcsx2 played a small part in my choice of upgrade yet i would never go and buy a ps2 to play these games. ![]() Lol to be honest until 3 months ago i could never get it to work :P |

problem is e8400 and q6600 are the same price now at least at microcenter. So for 200 bucks it's a hard choice between 4 cores or higher speed/OC with lower power.

The best choice would really be getting a Quad, because you can overclock it to at least 3.0-3.5GHz with proper cooling and get good results with pcsx2 and have the advantage of having 2 extra cores to do something else while gaming(listen to music maybe). If you also pretend on studying programming, graphic designs or other related stuff that has to be done with a computer, it would be more easier to have a Quad-Core processor over a Core 2 Duo to do those stuff.

I have my quad @ 3.6 ghz. there has not been a single game where I don't get 60 fps at all times with 0 drops. Without a limiter its often above 120fps range in 3d games and 200 fps + in 2d games.
