If I was to run PCSX2 on an ultra powerful rig...

Something like:

Intel QX6700 Core2Quad Extreme Edition
3 x GeForce 8800 Ultra SLI
4 Gigs of the fastest RAM possible

Would I be able to run even the most demanding PS2 games? (Assuming that my PC won't burst into flames because of insufficient cooling)

No. PCSX2 only uses 2 cores max and one video card and ram helps a little in speed.

Facts...something people seem to not read up on before posting stuff like this

PCSX2 utilizes only 2 cores
PCSX2 does not have SLI or Xfire support
2GBs and 4GBs on XP and Vista respectively is more then enough for PCSX2

Also, the term "demanding" is a bit loose with the emulator. Todays mid to high end desktops are more then sufficient enough to run PCSX2 decently, it's just the optimization of running different games that's the WIP right now. Even with todays best hardware money can buy, some games won't break the 10FPS threshold.

Just out of curiosity, would an ultra-powerful rig like this one be capable of running all PS2 games at full speed?

- One PS2 console

/sarcasm

Seriously, if you're going to buy a new computer don't do it for PCSX2. It simply isn't worth it when you can use your console. Even a PS3 is cheaper than buying an uber-rig.

I was just making a point, I'm never going to buy something like that because:

1) I will have to sell everything I own (including selling myself into slavery) to afford something like that

2) This rig has a terrible price-performance ratio, I would probably be better off running one Gefore 8800 GT than 3 Ultras.

P.S
I am just curious, I've never owned a PS2 and I've never tried PCSX2 or anything like that, I just like looking at the screenshots to see how far this emulator has come...
(Don't feel sorry for me, I'm going to get my Wii soon enough :P)

You don't really need a QX-series, you can just OC a Q-series or even a E-series
and You will never need 4 Gig of RAM anywhere , unless you are an architecture who models some humongous crazy stuff.
and you can get a much better GFX compare to 3 8800's.

You don't need three GFX's lol
1) it's a waste of money
2) they'll turn to ash and waste of money when new graphic cards come out
3) not many programs utilize 3 graphic cards

Even two cards in SLi/Crossfire is a waste of money.

pcsx2 does not work with sli or xfire profiles, the gfx pretty much caps out at the 8600gt(7900gtish) lvl without all the aa and af fancy pants stuff if you don't run it at super high res which really has no point btw. cpu helps, but it won't be optimized for all the games and currently it only supports up to 2 threads, not 4.

Oh by the way, will there be a big difference between the 8800GT 512MB and the 8800GT 1GB ?

OC, as I said, and that is a Dualcore CPU indeed, but the clock speed is too slow for PCSX2
