PAL games and the copy protection

It seems the Xebra emulator has problems running certain PAL games because of the copy protection. I don't know the exact reasons why (probably can't read the subchannel data), but it doesn't matter if you use the original disc or a perfect backup as you'll still get the 'black screen' issue.

Basically, I was doing all sorts of fiddling trying to get my rip of Final Fantasy VIII working (to no avail), yet an NTSC version ran perfect straight away! It sucks because I'd really like to use the rest of my PAL collection.

Does anyone know if perhaps there's some setting that could be changed in Xebra? It's a great emulator, but the UI sucks unfortunately.

Could try it, but I've never done that before. Where would be the best place to get ones that only remove the copy protection? Maybe I've misunderstood the subject, but from what I've seen, ppf patches can add other special fixes/hacks so they can work better in emulators like ePSXe. They even might add extra screens or stuff showing the people who made the patches too. That sucks as I want to preserve my original CD(s) and retain their authenticity, but only remove the protection in the ones that have it.

I've never done that either. But if you wanna try it check here :
http://consolecopyworld.com/psx/psx_patches_f.shtml

Try that, you probably will have to apply it to your image with ppf-o-matic since I don't think XEBRA can apply ppf in memory.

But it sems it's just a pla-2-ntsc patch not a protection fix. I doubt it''s gonna help you.
