I seem to get a slight popping/crackling sound with gunfire on both Tomb Raider and Die Hard Trilogy - which I'm pretty sure isn't the case on the original console. Does anyone know how to fix?

Edit - this is caused by the interpolation setting. Although it's weird that I get the same problem with the internal plugin.

If interpolation is set to Gaussian I get the popping on gunfire, but with none I don't get any, and with cubic it's a lot better.

What's the best interpolation option?

Do ePSXe users even need this plugin anymore? After all, Shalmas fixes have been added to the ePSXe SPU Core.

Well yes because the Core has no options, whereas this has loads.

This makes me think... This plugin, how "outdated" is compared to the internal 1.8.0 plugin? Or, are the same in fixes and compatibility?

For the most part, no, but the Square Enix games have major issues with the internal SPU (but the ePSXe team are aware of the issues, ASDR envelope issues I believe). For those games, I'd recommend the DSound 1.9 repair plugin.

I just gotta say, Grandia sounds awesome with Dsound. I've increased reverb by 15% and set post-filtering to desharp. After some volume adjustments and enabling DBB in my speakers, I can fully enjoy the bassline and bongos playing in the background of XA movies, while all the highs are at satisfactory level .

I believe being able to experiment (don't be afraid!) with filtering and adjusting volume levels separately is key to a decent sound experience - emulation that is tailored for the needs of that subjective sonuva inside You .

Well, even so, I feel I pestered the ePSXe team enough; they probably hate me at this point

Nah, that's OK. Internal SPU is, I'd say, an entry-level plugin for people who just wanna get it done. Simply. Semi-accurately. Without a hassle. Not much of an "enhanced" from that "enhancedPSXemulator," but great just the same.

Now, if you're looking for that "enhanced" experience and you got a feeling that the sound output of a real psx could've produced better results, bearing in mind cd data contents, play around with Dsound's settings. VAG speech sounds too loud in Grandia? Soften it up with volume control and your ears can now enjoy almost-clipping and hammy NTSC-U voice recordings. Can't hear 'em bongos in the intro movie? Pump up that reverb and desharp the output. Revel in your subjectivity.

I mean, really, back in the days we all played PSX games on analogue Sony Trinitrons or the likes. Who cared about the sound output when it was THAT much better than SNES. The situation changes once you get to decode all the audio stuff stored on a CDROM with a dedicated sound card and output of a pair of decent speakers. All of a sudden you feel like you don't wanna miss on anything from those excellent pieces composed by Nobuo Uematsu or other geniuses. You want to hear as much as your current hardware allows you to, not whatever it was that psx was capable of.

Thank you for maintaining this simple logic in the development of Dsound plugin.

Well, I guess you're right, not sure what I else I can do to help them at this point in time.

Are there any expert settings to get rid of the sound stuttering in FF9 (PAL)? In both epsxe and pcsx-r the sound sometimes stutters with P.E.Op.S 1.10b svn7 default settings.

In epsxe this happens once at the beginning of each fight, in pcsx-r this happens randomly outside of fighting. In Eternal SPU the problem is worse, the only plugin whithout stuttering is the epsxe SPU core 1.8.0 audio plugin which has a very low output quality compared to P.E.Op.S 1.10b.

Nice to see that the emulation scene is advancing towards increased precision and authenticity in relation to the original experience... (for example, edgbla's gpuBladeSoft software graphics renderer.)

I am eager to see in the future the Internal SPU fixing Final Fantasy VII (Square-Enix related) issues -- thanks to the_randomizer for having reported them to the epsxe team.

If I remember correctly most computers tend to suffer from some (about 100 ms) lag issues using this "PEOPS DSound repair," but XAudio2 can be installed and used under XP for those to be solved. Does anyone know if the Internal (core) SPU 1.8.0 suffers from such latency problems? (Ignoring the fact if you do not mind that this might be somewhat off-topic.)
