How do i open my old saves in teh new VBA?
i have been playing on Visual Boy Advanced version 1.7.2, and i just downloaded the version that allows you to link two windows together, so i can trade pokemon with myself to get them to evolve, however, when i open the new version, and go to the "load" tab, there aren't any saved games. then, i tried clicking "load", and going to the file where the saved games are and opening them, i only found two, and one was an extremely old save i had overwritten, and the other was a fairly old save, and both were glitched as hell and wouldn't play, they just sat there, and were in wrong colors. how do i open my current saves on the new vba version?

If you want to load in-game saves, you have to rename the files from .sav to .sa1 for the first window, .sa2 for the second and so on. This is preferable, since savestates might not be compatible over different versions, anyway.

so it still didn't work, when i tried to load on the newer version, after saving the games as "pokemon-firered.sa1" and "pokemon-firered.sa2", the files didn't even show up in the saves file when i hit "load" on the newer version, just the same two old ones, that don't even work. does this mean they won't work with the newer version, and i'll have to start all the way over on the newer version to be able to trade pokemon with myself? because that won't work out, i've spent weeks training and catching all the ones i have, it will take just as long to get them all again |

Ingame save files load automatically if you start a game; if they are in the correct folder and named accordingly. With VBA, did you save through VBA's own menu (or shortkeys) or by opening up the START-menu and hitting Save?

i saved them by using "shift+f1" and "shift+f2", on VBA v 1.7.2, when i try to open them on the new VBA, which allows me to link, the files don't show up, they aren't there at all no matter how i try to load

Yes, those are savestates and often not compatible between versions. You have to save as you would on a real GBA and then use the .sav.
