Slave Girl

Have you read this book? (Published 2009 so it's pretty up-to-date.)

It looks pretty depraved but it's actually a true story about a girl who was kidnapped and forced into the sex industry...I came across a copy recently after I was recommended it...I can't remember the last time I felt so compelled to read the next page after page of a book.

I've been to Amsterdam, and while I haven't visited a prostitute, I've walked around the district. After reading this I'll never look at it the same again. The s**t in this book is so horrific that I had trouble believing it was true, but it's the real deal. Absolutely shocking. I think everyone should read it if they can...

Spoiler:
This is all a true story, and it really should just be picked up and read without knowing anything about it. The following spoilers however describe some of the more shocking elements of the story, which obviously carry some of the emotional impact as part of the reading experience. So if you plan to get a copy, I wouldn't look at the following:
Spoiler:
- Victim of sexual abuse since the age of 3
- Raped by father at 13
- Kidnapped in Amsterdam a few years later
- Threatened at gunpoint to become a prostitute
- Forced onto crack
- Traded
- Forced to play Russian roulette
- Filmed being raped followed by being forced to watch the filming of a friend's head getting blown off at point blank range
- Living in constant terror
...

That's awful. I can't imagine her living a normal life after all this.

When I hear of tales of abuse (especially of women), it makes me wish I could adopt them like children just to take good care of them, showing them the good and peaceful side of life.. That's how I when reading an article about Afghan women suffering daily abuse and neglect as property and not decent humans. Makes me wish there was something I could do...

This world is teeming with sick, unnecessary people and the internet makes it even more obvious. The end of human race with be a salvation for this planet.

...and from what I've read in the book, this kind of thing is a lot more common than you may think. Many times, this girl was described by authorities as "one of the lucky ones", not to mention some statistical information that was noted in the book. Obviously I can't convey the entire contents, there are things I'm missing out. I just recommend that everyone reads it.

...next time I watch Taken, I'll watch it knowing that, that kind of s**t happens.

These kidnappers and pimps deserve to be executed.

What things have you known strike besides it being a horrible ordeal?

I'll be reading this, the illegal sex trade is old as time itself, and understanding the environment it creates is a real portrait of the evil nature of man. Too bad no matter how many of these rings get taken down, more keep popping up.

I also recommend Pimp by Iceberg Slim.

I meant been knowing about things such as this for a long time, lots of romanian girls (well from Moldova even more) where duped and targeted into pimping networks then treated like no living being should be treated, i also meant that this whole deal is a horrible ordeal that needs to be stopped, thing which i doubt it will never happen unfortunately...

I don't understand how this book would be eye-opening? Did so many people honestly believe that prostitutes are just girls that like to screw around or need a bit of extra college/booze money?

I really don't need a book to tell me that these sort of horrors exist in the world.

I gotta agree with Xblade and Schumi here.

I would still like to read the book though. I just hope that it won't make me have sleepless nights like some of the other books I have read.

^ Considering the state of the world, I'm not surprised at any unfortunate event that happens. This happens all the time and has been since the dawning of mankind. There's nothing new under the sun. I can empathize because I've been molested a handful of times before, but I don't lose any sleep over this.

Majority of the human race is innocent to a certain extent. Ending the human race isn't going to magically solve everything...
