Minecraft
I didn't see a thread for this outside the one specifically showing off a texture pack, so I wanted to start a general one. Here's a few of a town in a world I've been playing. I created the town from the ground up (had to build a rail system from another town and transport two villagers there which took ages). This took a lot of time (and blocks!) to make as I'm playing survival mode. You have to collect it all, level the land, build it, etc. It started as a hole in the side of the mountain and I slowly but surely expanded upon it in front of that. I still need to name it, but I've been throwing around a few ideas (mostly names from Final Fantasy IX). ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() More will come.

Yes, it took a lot of time. That's an understatement! The Minecraft 1.3.1 update came out between my first post and now, and I'm mixed on it (the big change is that single player as it was known is gone, and single player is now basically an instance of your PC hosting a server and then playing in it alone [it can be opened to the LAN though], which brought a lot of new issues and bugs and performance [and sync] impacts), but anyway, here's some more screenshots. I've changed my village a bit (and so did the mobs; a siege occurred which took out two of the three iron golems in it, and I've yet to see any new ones spawning despite thinking I should have enough villagers for at least two), and these mostly show the new sky/sun. I'll show more of the village in general, including some changes, later. I've also begun work on a very small village in the middle of the snow forest that I'll eventually show when it starts to take more form. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

I never was a fan of the blocky style of Minecraft, but i love what you've done with it, great use of color, nice environment as well, makes me want to wait for the next screens and village XD.

Looks brilliant but I can't stand Minecraft. Too much hype over a game that you have to completely make yourself. Terraria uses the same concept but at least it runs much lighter and has a far more advanced bestiary.

Well, you apparently like games that define objectives more for you, if our discussion regarding The Sims 3 was any indication. I tend to usually like these sorts of games, I guess. I never gave Terarria a proper chance, and I do have it, but from when I tried it for all but a few minutes, it didn't hook me like Minecraft did.

Well my biggest issue with Minecraft is that it had this massive hype wave following it back when it had like 8-13 monsters (and some were stronger versions of each other)...really? I'd have been bored within 5 minutes and here everyone was raving about how it was the greatest thing since sliced toast. A trailer video I saw for it was just an endless flyover of the same blocky landscape... Absolutely pathetic. I get that you can create amazing stuff in it, but that's after you've gone around and collected materials whilst being attacked by monsters...and being attacked by the same damn spider every time I want some wood is just pathetic. Granted it's more fleshed out these days but I just can't forgive it for all the hype when it was little more than a blocky engine.

Can you not do that again (turn a screenshot thread into an argument about why a game isn't a game or why you don't like it)? You've done it before to me and I find it rude and out of place. If you don't like it, fine. Don't come into a thread meant to show my screenshots and my specific game of it and complain. Your reasoning is sort of grasping at hypocritical straws anyway, no? All games are repetitive in numerous ways. If anything, the creativity and potential lend to making it so replayable. Sometimes, to some, less is more, and simplicity is better. The game isn't perfect but seriously, get out with these out of place "this isn't a game" arguments. P.S. Survival mode is but one mode of the game.

You thought I might be interested, I'm merely expanding on why I'm not. All games are repetitive yes, but this is like buying a bestseller and finding tons of blank pages and then some which have a whole bunch of random words on them the idea being that you make up your own story taking inspiration from the jumble of words. And I'm not derailing anything if this thread is dead without my input.

I like your town. I spend too much time drawing buildings everyday that I find Minecraft a little too familiar to work, but I really love the concept and execution of the game. If feel that to add a layer of zazz to the whole operation, I would throw in some more balconies to those buildings. I imagine in the old days of having to poop in a bucket, then throwing said bucket of poop off those balconies would be pretty gross.

I'd never intended to debate, merely explain. And you'd offered that I might be interested in some other thread (can't remember which now). No idea why we keep clashing like this these days.

I don't want to overdo the sunsets, but... (edit: actually, that's a sunrise looking at where the sun is relative to my village.) ![]() Here's one of the railways leading to what will become Dali (name from Final Fantasy IX). It's where I transported the villagers from. I'm going to rebuild that town. Speaking of names, I named my main town Gurugu. It's from Final Fantasy IX too... sort of. In the game's sound track, the music name for Mount Gulug's name is called Mount Gurugu (not sure if it's a translation mistake, the japanese name, or simply an error, but I liked it), so... I decided to use that. ![]() Also, the other small town (the one in the snow forest) is all but done, so... I'll try and get those and more of my main town's changes soon, as well as show the railways and some of it's bridges and tunnels. Quote:

I don't like minecraft, but your city really gives me that feeling of "this looks like a promising game" as if it was a beta of some RPG, lol Wish there were more games with that art style, and they could be blocky, I don't mind =) |
