Monitor turning on and off
It's flat screen 28 inch I-Inc monitor. Bought it about 3 years ago. I don't turn my PC off very much (a lot of torenting and I use my PC alarm clock) but over the last few months if I turn off the monitor for a bit it takes a while to turn back on even if the power button clearly shows it's on. I uninstalled the video card drivers and now it works. Can't seem to install any kind of updated driver without the screen going to **** though. I've got an AMD video card. I've updated the drivers and the same error occurs.

I have the same monitor (branded as a Hanns G) with the same problem. The monitor cuts off when warming up, displays "input signal out of range" and other niggles. It's not the inverter, it's the actual board itself that is going. I plan to replace mine with a 30" 1600p monitor. The Hanns G has been a nice monitor all around.

So it's not the video card at all?

No. I thought so to, so I bought a GTX670 (was going to upgrade anyway). Still have the problem.

Okay, new problem: I took out my LCD and put in a CRT monitor (I don't have money right now to buy a new one) and it loads and stops and does not go to Desktop. I have to boot it in Safe Mode in order to get to desktop.

I had basically the same problem with my Samsung Syncmaster 226BW, after some 5 years in trusty service. At first it was just a couple of turn on-turn off, but as the weeks passed it went longer and longer before it would stay on. In the end, I could actually let it sit and try to turn itself on for half a day (like when I was at work for 11 hours), and when I got home it still hadn't turned on properly. Weird thing was, if I didn't turn it off at all, it would stay on and work as it should have, pretty much indefinitely. Apparently that was a problem with that monitor, and replacing 2-3 caps (soldering) fixed it for most. Never got around to it, so I just tossed it (electrical waste, naturally). And since I had 2 monitors at the time, of course I tested both monitors (both separately and simultaneously) on both DVI ports on the graphics card, which did rule out the GPU. |

Tried that and for some reason it didn't work. Tomorrow my Dad's going to lend me an LCD so I guess I'll be okay. Glad to know it's the monitor and not the card, still sucks because I spent $300 on that monitor and was hoping it would last at least 5 years.

Which country are you in? Here in Norway there's some laws and court rulings saying that stuff like this should last at least 5 years, so even if the warranty given by the manufacturer isn't that long, you still got the right to have it fixed if it fails. |
