ps3 controller will only work for some games..help!

i'm pretty new to the pSX emulator but have been playing a couple of games (i.e FFVII) for awhile just using the keyboard and it was fine. then i got a spyro game and although it worked fine i found it difficult to use with the keyboard so hooked up my ps3 controller. after finally getting it to work i went back to FFVII and it wouldnt work! i've deleted and re-downloaded the emu and the games but it still wont work with either the controller OR the keyboard now.
so right now i can only play FFIX and Spyro 2 with the controller but no other games will work.
can anyone help?
p.s sorry if all that was a bit confusing!

well if you owned a real ps1 and played ff7 on it then you will realise the game only works when the controller is in digital mode as it was made when there were only digital controllers for ps1

No I never owned a ps1 with ff7.
So do you have a solution to my problem? How can I make it work? And why would a couple of games work but the others won't?
