He wasn't wearing bullet proof armor, he was wearing bullet resistant armor. There is a large difference, bullet resistant would feel like getting the wind knocked out of you. Under his ballistics helmet he wore a gas mask painted red. He wore bullet resistant leg protectors. None of which would stop a bullet from causing him bruising or pain. It would stop a bullet from killing him by passing through the armor, but not stop it from hurting him.

Even not knowing that in the theater, you still aim for center of mass. A cluster of shots in center of mass will knock anyone down in pain in bullet resistant armor. They teach you that in the military when becoming an MP to deal with drunk soldiers who are discharging their firearm in public.

This.

Don't believe it? Go to south side Chicago, IL as a white person and see what happens. Even a black person minding his own business is at risk down there at the wrong time of the day/night.

I'm well aware that body armor wouldn't stop the pain, but I'm also aware it wouldn't put a definitive stop to his attack.

That's IF someone can properly aim at the correct guy (especially if they are many with concealed carry) during the chaos and with the gas canisters flying around.

Generally, I believe that people have a right to defend themselves (concealed carry) as long as they prove, without a doubt, that they will make everyone around them *safer* and not the opposite. That means proper training and testing to make sure they have the maturity and responsibility to know when to act and when to stand down.

But here's the thing : I just don't believe it would have made a significant difference in this particular scenario, I really don't.
It just feels like a lot of pro-gun people are overstating the impact it would have made to counter the people saying that stricter laws are needed.

An outright ban will not work. The technology is simplistic and even if we were to ban guns, it would not take a determined individual that much time or effort to construct their own device.
One of the main issues is mentality. Most see firearms as weapons, whereas they are not "weapons" until used that way. We do not say a baseball bat is a weapon, until it has been used in that manner, so why classify a firearm as such (and don't give me that bull that they have only 2 purposes, killing animals or people, try telling that to sport shooters that don't hunt. i.e. 2 kids trying to go to the Ontario games that get banned as ambassadors because they are sport shooters). If we could simply educate the masses rather than allowing them to believe that firearms are "scary" (like Switzerland) then perhaps we would see a reduction in firearm related deaths.
Either way though (banned or not) the crazies will always find a way to hurt those they wish to hurt. If guns were banned and the assailant was unable to procure a firearm, whose to say that he wouldn't have used another device of greater destruction (i.e. a bomb)?

We weren't talking about banning guns tho, that's discussing something else. Completely banning guns at this point would be impossible.

Now with that said : I'd rather face a guy with a homemade gun than someone with a rifle and a shotgun on him. Just a personal preference.

You specifically weren't Thanakil, but 1 or 2 others did. Someone said something about having no guns, I said what I said above as a response to that statement.

I strongly believe if the gunman didn't have access to guns/ammo legally... he would of done one of a few things:

A. Gotten a gun(s) / ammo illegally like "most" criminals do.
B. Used an explosive ( bomb ) as he has proven he is knowledgeable with them. Ergo, he
set his apartment with tripwires and explosives.
C. Something else entirely worst.

If they ban guns (i dont mind if they do) criminals will still get them, they can gang up on a regular cop with masks on and get their guns & amo.

Yeah.... I think that's a tad less likely that you seem to think.

i agree that even if they where banned criminals could still get them, but the method is quite off, there are a lot of illegal routes out there.
