ePSXe 1.7 crashing upon launching games
Been trying to play some FFIX with the insane difficulty patch, but ePSXe keeps crashing when I load the ISO. Don't have the original disks, so I can't try those. I've tried other games, but those crash too, as well as the unmodified disks (made a copy of the ISOs before applying the patch). Also, mounting the ISO and choosing "run from cdrom" crashes the emulator all the same. Tried versions 1.5.2, 1.6 and 1.7, all crash in the same manner. PSXeven crashes too. pSX 1.13 doesn't crash, and I can play just fine, but it refuses to run in fullscreen mode, regardless which settings I use. All are located on the desktop, on the system SSD, with the games on another hdd, but this hasn't proven an issue in the past. Even if it was, why does pSX run it just fine from another hdd? Event Viewer error: Spoiler:
At first I thought the files I already had (ePSXe) had gotten corrupt somehow, so I downloaded a new version (1.6 and 1.7) and new plugins from the download section, but same ****. Using the same BIOS for all emulators, which has worked for several years just fine. Went through the troubleshooting threads, but to no avail. http://forums.ngemu.com/showthread.php?t=112628 http://forums.ngemu.com/showthread.php?t=65247 As well as the config guide http://forums.ngemu.com/showthread.php?t=85600 Nothing has worked for me so far. Last time I played, I had the 560 Ti on the 2xx family drivers, but now I'm on the shiny 680 and 3xx family drivers (no release work), could that have broken ePSXe somehow? As for plugins, at first I tried with the ones I've been using for years. GPU: Pete's OpenGL primarily, D3D and DX6 D3D. Sound: Peops Dsound primarily, ePSXe SPU core. CDrom: ePSXe ASPI core primarily. Tried SaPu's 1.2 and 1.3 too. For the graphics settings, I've cranked it up, but neither the "nice" nor "fast" presets work either. Fullscreen or window mode doesn't matter. All runtimes and redistributables have been reinstalled or repaired, directx included. I'm at a loss. I don't see how it could "break", just like that. Is the 680 really to blame for this, or rather the drivers? Alternatively, if you can tell me how to get pSX to run fullscreen mode, would be much appreciated. |

Strange, now it's totally broken. If I choose to play ISO, the pop-up window doesn't appear. If I choose to run the cdrom, ePSXe just disappears outright, no error message at all. Event Viewer: Spoiler:

About Exception code: 0xc0000005 # for hex 0xc0000005 / decimal -1073741819 : STATUS_ACCESS_VIOLATION ntstatus.h # The instruction at "0x%08lx" referenced memory at # "0x%08lx". The memory could not be "%s". USBD_STATUS_DEV_NOT_RESPONDING usb.h 1) Access Violation - can be cased by hardware or software issue In your case - # "0x%08lx". The memory could not be "%s". - the program (ePSXe) is waiting for parameter i.e. number but it is getting String... 2) USBD_STATUS_DEV_NOT_RESPONDING - this points to some kind of driver issue which can causing the first error. Could you please provide dump file of ePSXe.exe so I can investigate deeper ? |

As I can see from the dump you have Display Fusion and MSI Afterburner. The emulator is loading 2 libraries one from Display Fusion and one from Afterburner. It is possible that they do the access violation. You can try stop Display fusion and afterburner processes/services and rerun ePSXe for test purposes and see if it helps. If not one more suggestion - Try run the cd not the iso using some kind of virtual drive and PEOPs cdr Plugin or use ISO loader cdr Plugin( It works as the "Run ISO" function via "Run CDROM"). |

At the moment it's working... I don't know how it happened or why it does, it just does. I shut down everything that ran, Steam, Display Fusion, Afterburner, NetMeter, even RealTemp, basically everything besides the drivers. It launched, using the "Run ISO" command. At first I did window mode, enabling one program at a time (relaunching ePSXe each time), and it's working perfectly each time. At the moment I got every background process that I normally have on, running in the background, and it still works. If you want, I can upload a dump file of it now, if it'll help resolve some bugs or whatnot, because I don't have a flying clue as to why it suddenly decided to work. ----- E: http://www.mediafire.com/?cxlwwu9d7xw5326 Quite a bit bigger than the first one. For the people that downloaded the dump files (I see 10 for the first, 8 for the second), did they help in any way?
