Lots of drugs are released that have potential side effects that can be as bad or worse than the conditions they are meant to treat. Unfortunately, such is to be expected when the initial drug testing is conducted on too narrow a sample to predict just how possibly bad the drug can be once it hits the market...

I suggest you see if you can get shecked out if you could be getting diabetes or something like that. With the drug I'm taking (accutane) I have to get blood tests every month to make sure nothing bad is going to happen.

Well if you want a bright side to this I can think of 2 possible ones:

1. You dont have diabetes "the best one"
2. You have diabetes.. sue the company live your life filthy rich

Of course #1 is the better, but incase you have it extract as much money as possible from them mwuahahah

Insane people? What's the proper term for zyprexa users?

You're taking anti-psychotic medication?

Anyway, Zyprexa is a benzodiazepine (so it's not so bad for you. There're worse drugs out there ), and AFAIK there's no linkage between benzos and diabetes (though I could be wrong).

I'll take a look at pubmed and see if I've missed any recent study. I'll report it later.

I've search through PubMed, and it seems that I was wrong.

I found two studies which seem to be the most related to this subject:

There's Atypical antipsychotics and diabetes mellitus: an association.

And, particularly, Fatal olanzapine-induced hyperglycemic ketoacidosis (in case you don't know, Olanzapine is Zyprexa's active principle):

Quote:
Olanzapine is an antipsychotic medication linked to the development, or exacerbation of, type 2 diabetes mellitus. This report describes 3 patients being treated with olanzapine who died suddenly and unexpectedly with hyperglycemic ketoacidosis. All had olanzapine concentrations within the therapeutic range.
Yet, the cause of this is not yet clear.
Anyway, thanks for your thread, upwardexhalebwn. An opportunity to increase my own knowledge is always welcome.
