pcsxr ff9 menu problems

i recently began playing ff9 with pcsxr and it plays great. the only problem is that the menu will only open on the world map? anyone else have this problem? i've changed the controls multiple times and i just can't figure it out.

The same thing is happening to me. It's getting bothersome. I have the menu button set for triangle and it works for everything else except when I try to open the menu in the field map.

Running pscxr on Macbook Pro with Lion 10.7.4
