Cheats in ePSXE

Hello everyone!

Im new here!

I would like to ask if any of you knows how to patch cheats or activate cheats for games?

The game in question is Valkyrie Profile and Parasite Eve 2.
I've already finished them on the PS1 years ago but Im replaying them again just to experience the storyline.

Can anyone please help/teach me how?

Thank you so much!

I tried it before but I never understood how to use it.

I need to add a new cheat for Parasite Eve and Valkyrie Profile but it always fails

PEC usage may seem a bit confusing at first, mainly because it's split in two parts, only one of which is integrated with the emulator, as a GPU plugin for it, though both parts (the separate EXE and the plugin) must be used each time you want to use cheats.

The GPU plugin part has a config menu which allows you to specify the 'real' GPU plugin to be used together with PEC (which does no graphics work itself). So you configure the emulator to use PEC as its main GPU plugin, but then you configure that plugin to tell it what 'real' GPU plugin should do the graphics work, and then you configure this 'real' GPU plugin too of course, as needed for your game.

I set it up this way for all of my games, regardless of whether I want to cheat or not, since this simplifies things for those few cases when I really want to use cheats. Having PEC set up this way has no noticeable effect on normal game usage, as long as no cheats are activated.

Activation of some cheats is always started outside of the emulator, by launching the separate "PEC.EXE" program, to select what cheats to use and finishing this by clicking the button "Send Cheats to Plugin".

Contrary to what you might expect, the emulator does not yet have to be running when you do this. The PEC popup that appeared will patiently wait for you to start the emulator and launch a game with the PEC plugin active, at which time the popup will disappear (after the plugin has received the cheats).

You might not see this if you are running the game full-screen, but you can see it if running the game in a window. And it is a good idea to do this at least temporarily (switching with Alt-Enter), so you can terminate the PEC.EXE program. It is no longer needed once the plugin has the cheats, and it's pointless to waste CPU cycles on this PEC.EXE once it has done its job.

I hope this post has helped clarify how you too can use PEC.

Btw:
Though my example above only told you how to run PEC.EXE to choose cheats before start of a game, you can in fact do this at any time during a game too, and repeatedly during a game session, so as to modify which cheats are selected, or even to deactivate cheating again. It's a more flexible method than the 'normal' cheat engine usage, which allows only a fixed set of cheats during each game session.
