Graphics might be boring you right now.... Why don't you try Visual Novels? Like Katawa Shoujo?

I have so many games to finish (or start) that maybe I have a similarly rooted issue issue, but with me it's more of a motivation to get started with them because I do occasionally find one that hooks me and I stay with it (not solely, but it gets added with the few I always go back to like Sims 3, Tiberium Wars, etc.). As of late, that game is Minecraft. There's no "story", per se, so that part of the feel is gone, but the gameplay and replayability make for something highly potential and lasting.

I still need to finish that game...

The voice acting was indeed one thing, but another I didn't like was that grinding seemed more or less useless, so there was no feel of customization or freedom with levels. It all seemed predetermined with bosses since enemies gave so few experience and bosses gave so many, if I remember right.

Hmm... it may have seemed like that in the beginning, but its not like that, you need grinding not only for leveling here but to master additions as well. In the beginning i'd say its more for additions then level, but later on its also for leveling.

Yeah LOD grinding was quite annoying. And as Strike said, early on it was for the additions and later for the experience. But if I remember correctly, there was more than one occasion where you would play with the main character alone and could level up quite a bit.

Smile Perhaps I can give you some insight?; glad to help!

I could see from your early posts that we share the same tastes in gaming.
6, 7, 8, 9 and 10 were my favorite Final Fantasies. You should defo try 6, PSX version (because of the cutscenes). Morrowind, Oblivion and Skyrim got me totally hooked for hours, and still do - especially due to the great modding community.
Maybe you forgot to add it to the list, but if not may I suggest you The Legend of Zelda series? The N64 versions are true master-pieces!

Well, if you're into grinding and you haven't tried them already, I reccomend two MMORPG's, both F2P (Free-to-Play):

1st - Metin2, an orient/eastern fantasy world MMO (link to the American Gameforge site: http://www.metin2.com/), got me hooked for three years (2008-2011). Basically, you control one of the 4 available characters (Warrior, Sura, Shaman or Ninja) and do a lot of quests to level up and fight for your Kingdom - there are three to choose from. You can battle players from inside your kingdom (by request - or if you're mean you can charge at anyone under the penalty of losing EXP and rank), but you can also battle players from outside of your kingdom (no rules apply in this case - you don't need to smash every outsider, really... unless you feel like it or you're the victim... in that case, DEFEND YOUR HONOR!). Kingdoms hold constant wars against each other for territory/spot defense (there are many unruled places within the continent), and strong Guilds within your kingdom may prepare you for these events (Guild wars happen too, for disputing supremacy inside the kingdom).
Throughout the game you'll get powerful skills, mounts, weapons, armor and items (some of these may be rare/very valuable). Mobs are cool, the graphics are nice and quests give you some nice EXP while they're not even boring. I'd reccomend European servers only, but it's up to you. Tried American and didn't like the community... If you're in America, I'd suggest you try the British server, but only if you're not willing to spend real-life $$$ (US dollars). I'm Portuguese, so I play the Portuguese server.
Some personal notes: the game gives you some good objectives, but it gets pretty hard on lvl 50 and beyond - except when you reach lvl 75, then you become a part of the elite; it's important that you gain people's trust, especially from med-to-high leveled people (48+), since it will certainly give you good advantages; be aware of scams, they do happen in this game and I was once a victim... If it's too good to be true, then it's because it really is; ingame money transactions are also somewhat tricky and if you don't count how many numbers are in that tiny black box, you may end up giving away something valuable without getting much in return - safest bet is to always set up a personal store and use the trade command only when you trust the other person; end note: trust me, you won't need to spend a single cent on this game, unless you want to get high level fast.

I don't have any good accounts anymore since I gave them to a friend - I study now (college) -, but occasionally I still login and get lots of fun by creating new accounts over and over for loot and money lol.

2nd - Dekaron, (official global link - http://dekaron.nexoneu.com/NXEU.aspx), same genre, except it's not orient-flavored (perhaps a mixture between medieval and final fantasy?), you get more classes to choose from which you can personalize, epic skills, summons and whatnot. Perhaps you've heard about 2Moons? It's based on this game. For a first playthrough, I'd reccomend a private server. I tried one and enjoyed it a lot, but I don't want to advertise here, so if you want to try it out too, please PM. Vanilla gameplay (as in: no rates) tends to get pretty boring but it's always worth trying out. More info, Google is your friend.

As for a PS2 RPG, have you ever tried the Xenosaga series?
A science-fiction RPG with a deep, epic story. It has a very philosophical background. If you're into story like me, play all 3 episodes. Here you can read more about it: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Xenosaga.

Cheers, mate!

PS: Sorry for the long post...
