VBA 1.7.2 to 1.7.6 .sgm conversion
Hello, and pardon me if this has been asked before, I was using VBA version 1.7.2 and Mac OS Snow Leopard and have upgraded to Mac OS Lion, which does not support VBA 1.7.2 (as it is a PowerPC application). I've installed VBA 1.7.6 (for Intel Mac) in order to emulate under Lion. I tried loading my old .sgm save state that I had been using with 1.7.2 on 1.7.6. This produced the error message: "Unsupported VisualBoyAdvance save game version 134217728". Is there any way I can run my 1.7.2 save states on 1.7.6? Perhaps there is a way to convert the 1.7.2 .sgm to a 1.7.6 version? Thanks, The Wretched Harmony |

Can't you use a .sav? Savestates have a tendency to not be upwards-compatible, but normal saves mostly work.

Supposedly I can export .sgm as .sav in VBA via File > Export > Battery File. However, in VBA 1.7.6 the only options I see under File are open rom, close rom, pause emulation, reset emulation. Is there another way to export .sgm as .sav?

.sgm = state save, .sav = battery save. They actually save different types of data. .sgm basically stores all the variables in the game specified by the emulator coder, and .sav saves the critical information specified by the game coder. I doubt there is a converter from .sgm to .sav as the data stored in .sgm and .sav different from game to game. To make a .sav file, just use the in-game save, however the game developer what you on the actual GBA, on 1.7.2. Then you just start the game again in 1.7.6 and continue. You don't even need to export/inport/do anything on/outside of VBA.
