Hoo boy, looks like there is a torrent of discussion about her body of work.

If it's like her other videos, I won't expect anything worth while or interesting, her agenda is pretty transparent, her videos are incredibly limited in scope and her production is nothing special. If she really wants to create something worth while that looks in depth at the issue (if you see it as such) then perhaps her energies would be better spent on writing a paper. As a series of short videos, they really don't accomplish much more than baiting vitriol from bored viewers and taking donations.

Either way I'll watch it and see what all the fuss is about, then continue on safe with the knowledge that sometime, somewhere, someone is upset about videogames.

And it will change nothing.

Has she ever noticed all male characters in video games are also sexist stereotypes too?
You have the big musclehead, the brooding hero on pmt, the noble soldier, the womaniser, the gangster, the asshat.

I don't think she has the ability to see our world without looking for ways to be a victim.
I'd like to show her some real gender equality with a good equal rights punch to the face.

I took Psyche of Women at college, and my final project was gender, violence, and video games (IIRC ~ 1998.) The professor was horrified at the games I showed with female characters and the violence, and that was ~ the time of Tomb Raider 2, imagine what she would have thought about Grand Theft Auto IV?

BTW, I got a "B" on the project and the course. Someday if I can I need to take the videotape and digitize it.

As soon as I recognized her from the video from the Bechdel test, I realized where this was going.
Her video pissed me off pretty badly back then. She used the test but twisted the requirements to make almost every movie fail. I actually found her version of the test to be sexist against women.
Anything a woman did or said became invalid if it was even remotely tied to a man. Is that really the message to give women? What you do is irrelevant and your achievements are worthless if men are involved or mentioned?

Relevant picture (behind spoiler tag since it's very tall) :
Spoiler:

Anyway, it's pretty obvious that video games have a very bad approach to both male and female characters, and tend to treat female characters worse.
But I sure as hell don't expect her, of any people, to be the voice of reason on this subject.

This.
And don't forget the nerd who can't fight or shoot worth HIS life. Because it's pretty much always a man.

I find it funny she picks on female character I use like Mai from King of Fighters, but Mai can be a decent fighter in that game if you know her moves.

So would she only be happy if females were portrayed in games as fat and unattractive or thin and butch? and wouldn't those be stereotyping women as well?

I haven't watched the video yet, so I'm going on limited information here, but from the gist of what's being said (and that image), I guess she calls everything in gaming (and maybe in general) sexist?

There's sexism (and more broadly, stereotyping, as someone else mentioned) in video games, but is it extreme to me? Does it bother me? On the whole, no. I'd rather have it as it is now than conserve it. I might not exist were it for such rules! I'd probably be too much of sexism.

Uh oh! There's appeal; there's sexism! I know those are fan art images, but they aren't exaggerated, and there's a shot in the game that shows down her shirt a bit too, and another that's not far from her posterior. Is she just a sexism symbol? Is that game or even just those scenes sexist? No.

Part of a girl is her looks and that's part of her role in society. Do I totally like the emphasis put on it? Not necessarily, but at the same time, it's natural, and we ourselves want to feel like we look good and sexy, and I be darned if she says others can't.

Video games are like attacking a niche that is far from the worst, and if the creators want to include that type of content (I'm not talking actually explicit stuff necessarily but anything this girl may call sexism, such as Garnet in my example when that's really rather conservative) then so what!? I like my roles to be a little sexy, just as I myself would want to be/feel. It's not necessarily for it's own sake, but regardless, so what if it's there!?

It's not all Black or White, and in situations where it' is (for the purpose more of sexism), so what even then!? If that's what an individual/parties agree on/do, so what!? It's not really a major issue.

Don't let one bad example of feminist speak for all of women or femininity itself. I'll go back and check the video though to see what it is, but if it's a "everything is sexism and is totally bad" like seems to be, then there's my opinion.

I think Kaizen already mentioned the most important part and the biggest hole in her argument......... Basically media uses tropes to make things more easily identifiable to the viewer... Even the lower common denominator ones. And it all applies and does not cater to a specific agenda, gender or even beliefs... as TVTropes shows.

I.E., we think people take videogames too seriously and we want to tell people how to make videogames that we think are acceptable to society and PC.

Disregarding this lively debate about sexism and stereotypical, I'd like to ask one thing: why do you need a Kickstarter project for... some short videos on Youtube?

Hm... someone seriously needs to pay the Angry Video Game Nerd guy some slum sum if this one is funded... at all.

I get that cameras and equipments are expensive and all, but... if she wanted to make a statement, writing a paper (as suggested) or... hell, make a friggin' website, would be waaaaaaayyyyyyyy cheaper.

I guess in this economy, everyone tries to make money somehow...

She is making thousands of dollars for something she should be doing for FREE. It's a scam in my opinion. One doesn't need to be a genius to find out about all the sexism in video games. Just go to Google or TV Tropes and then you get tons of examples and research.
