Why is it that pretty much every movie/tv show from the US insists on using the phrase "making love" when they're talking about having sex?
I loathe that term, seriously.

Because the term "sex" to them is something completely immoral but when they use the term "making love" it's an fulfillment of love between two people and that's how "it's supposed to be". Even when it's a husband cheating on his wife with the wife's sister, sex is bad but making love is okay!

In other words, hypocrisy. And we all know, yankees live by the creed of hypocrisy.

I've been watching this series, How to Grow a Planet and it's astonishing. It explores the relationship that plants have with our planet, from mighty trees to the most common of grasses, it paints a beautiful picture of the history of our planet. What intrigued me the most was how pivotal grass was in the evolution of man and other species. Cinematography is gorgeous, Professor Ian Stewart does a tremendous job as host and narrator and the science behind it is beautiful.

Essential viewing.

Missed this post, but yeah, my thoughts exactly.
Something Ziva said on NCIS comes to mind on the whole hypocrisy thing:

Despite their conservative image, Americans really love their porn.

Thank you. I believe it is a favorite with my mother. I'll put it in my list to check out. ^^

Thank you for the recommendation. It's a huge favorite with my family but i have never really been able to give the show a chance yet. My little brother doesn't think I will like it, but I'll give it a shot!

Thank you but I'm sorry to say that I've never been able to really get hooked onto this show. It is good but not my cup of tea. I think part of it is because it used to be a favorite show of my grandmother's, especially right before she passed away last year. So it's kind of hard for me to watch it because of how close I was to her. I know that sounds so freaking stupid, but ya. Do you have any other recommendations tho Ahielia? I'd love to hear them!

About a P.I who pretends to be psychic when the cops expect him of being in on a crime cuz of the tips he gave them which he got purely from observing and reasoning. And then he enjoyed that first adventure so much he decides to keep doing it.

Lots of comedy in it as well.
LOVE LOVE LOVE Psych! I only watch episodes here and there though. I should probably get all the episodes from the show and watch it. It really makes me giggle. I really appreciate most of the shows that are made from the USA Network. Others they have put out is Burn Notice, Covert Affairs, Fairly Legal, Necessary Roughness, White Collar, Suits, Royal Pains, etc. Some great ones.

Thanakil, isn't Reaper, Leverage, Party Down and The Black Donnellys cut off earlier than they were intended because they were canceled? I try not to get involved with shows that i know will end early and amke me sad that they couldn't live up to a great ending.

However, I acquired the pilot episode of the Black Donnellys from iTunes for free right before it aired on television. I really did like it a lot. I may try to give it another shot. And Reaper seems to be right up my alley. ^^

Totally need to try Breaking Bad. My little brother absolutely adores it. XD

XD

I was going to say that I rarely ever hear the term "making love" in American films and television shows!

Perhaps it's because I'm a girl, but I feel that the term "making love" is more romantic and full of love behind the words. Where as "sex" just means the carnal no emotion side of the act.

Sounds totally stupid, I know. But I thought a lot of ppl considered it that way.

They probably figure that little kids are too stupid to figure it out. Really, a lot of kids are but there are a fair amount of children that actually use half their brain and realize the adult situations...

Btw, is it as good as Avatar series?

If anything, children are smarter than adults in that regard.
Have you noticed that it's always the adults saying the kids can't handle that sort of stuff?
That's awesome parenting, not having any faith in your children.

Reaper and The Black Donnellys got cut short and the endings do leave us wondering what would have followed, but I think they're both still worth it.

Party Down was cancelled after 2 seasons, but for the most part the ending is satisfying. It lets us see what the future for the story would be about, without giving us too many questions. (And they're planning to make a small movie, too)

Leverage is still going on, the fifth season starts next month.

Melinda Snodgrass, a writer for Star Trek and who wrote arguably one of the best Trek episodes of all time "Measure of a Man" (an episode where Data is put on trial over Starfleet law regarding him as a person or a machine, it's beautiful, go and see it) tweeted a few days ago that during the editing of the HD version of this episode, it is now 20 minutes longer for review and will be on the blu-rays.

This makes me incredibly happy, just this morning I was planning to watch that episode again as it's incredibly written, but seeing that the episode will be pushed to being over an hour long is just magnificent. I cannot wait to see this.

Touch is one of those shows that does a whole lot of nothing and expects you to believe in it. A typical episode will be, the kid who doesn't talk will monologue about something and say a whole lot of nothing that won't necessarily relate to the show, Keifer Sutherland will wisper the entire show, will claim to be a good parent. Arguably isn't. He will chase numbers down because the script tells them too. Other people in the world will have several co-incidences. The state will get closer to taking custody of the kid and some Jewish guy will say some things.

Somehow watched a whole season and can't really justify why.

About 3/4 through Suburgatory and god damn is this show ridiculously hilarious. It's kind of like Daria meets Clueless with some of Community thrown in. The first few episodes barely finds it's feet, but after that the show is consistently becoming funnier and funnier. There are so many parody's of suburban lifestyle it's almost sickening, but in a weird way it manages to stay grounded and keep episodes tied into each other.

The casual racist jokes that fly pretty close to being under the radar are also superb and used well within the shows context.

Alan Tudyk is genius as a supporting role and probably the best dentist in a show ever and Jeremy Sisto is brilliant as the single father of the show. The rest of the cast also feel really in place and add a lot to the show.

Genius.

Chuck S3 has started here so I'm finally watching that.
The Mentalist ended, was quite entertaining but there's still something I don't like about it. It's too dark and/or fake at times.
And Top Gear got replaced with 5th Gear and the end of Season 15. It's nowhere near as good but still entertaining enough.

Anyone know of any good shows (preferably comedy) with roughly half or more black cast?
Where they aren't the "ghetto yo-yo dawg hoe" type.
