Occasional speed drop in Skyrim

I'm not sure if my drivers are simply outdated or if the settings are too high, but every two minutes or so, the framerate will dip for a couple of seconds, go back to normal, and then skip again. It gets annoying after a while, and so I downloaded the drivers from nVidia's website. The drivers on there right now are from Lenovo's website, but the only ones they have aren't updated, so I likely have those installed right now.

What I'm wondering is, are there any detrimental effects from installing the GPU drivers from nVidia instead of from Lenovo? The thing is, this is an Optimus GPU, but I disabled the Intel IGP since it's useless (wouldn't need to install both GPU drivers)?

If you're not using the IGP at all, the latest Verde release from nVidia should work fine.

Sounds more like a spike from a background process.
