The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind

There's an ancient thread with Morrowind screens already, but since it's 10 years old I've decided to create a new one.

Having played Skyrim for a bit lately I decided to go back a little and play Morrowind as well, since it still is the best The Elder Scrolls series has to offer IMO and not even Skyrim betters it (Oblivion not even being close).

As you know, Morrowind is a 10 years old game now and the vanilla looks really dated. Therefore I am giving it a try with Morrowind Graphic Overhaul, which really makes it look amazing! I'll be sharing some shots here.

THATS... IMPRESSIVE!!!!

I never seen Morrowind looking THIS good, and I DID tried the graphics extender and some textures replacers.

Amazing. Who needs Skyrim now, huh?

The people that think the engine limitation and animations are still as clunky as ever and that that soldier looks disturbing. I'll never understand these overhaul packs because of that.

This.

I had also tried the MGO a few years ago, but removed it shortly after.
The reason for that is because of performance issues, (I had a Q6600 with a 4870HD then) and the fact that Morrowind started to look like Oblivion.
Way too green...

But if you don't care for the lore and immersion, then this pack is ideal.

Thank goodness I'm not one of those people.

I've played Skyrim, and while the engine is advanced enough (even though its STILL Gamebryo, even though Beth tried to make us believe that it isn't), the game itself is a real bore... Not bad, but not as good as it should.

I honestly fail to see reasoning here, if I install the overhaul pack for Morrowind I lose lore and immersion? How? It's just making the best game in TES series (according to majority of TES fans) looking well as it hasn't aged really well. And no, it doesn't look like Oblivion, there's Morroblivion for that, which gives you quests marks and fast travel as well. MGO gives only that, graphics overhaul while remaining faithful to the game, which IMO is better.

On a side note, how could you have tried it a few years ago when the project first released in Feb 2011?

Because the pack also adds more vegetation etc. Not sure if you can skip the options now. But back then you couldn't.

Morrowind is meant to be a 'different' world. 'Alien' if you will. It's supposed to look barren, etc. Just like the lore indicates.

I'm afraid that doesn't count statistically anymore. Since Skyrim, the amount of fans has increased tremendously, outnumbering the ´core´ TES fans. And yes, I agree that Morrowind is still, much, much more enjoyable than Skyrim.
Skyrim lacks something, I can´t put my finger on it though.

Yeah, that indeed looks more like Oblivion. Quest marks?

Oh, I think I've been using this before the MGO came out. It was a while ago, I cant exactly recall what it was. xD

MGE is just a part of MGO. When you install you have plenty of options regarding vegetation, trees, etc. (there's even 'Vvardenfell friendly' option with grass). Like Strike pointed out it puts great replay value to your favourite game, plus people who are actually put off by Morrowind looks nowadays can get themselves immersed thanks to the mod.

Well yes, but I don't understand how it does that. Take Freelancer for instance, if you try tweaking those graphics it will still be the same base game I got bored of after hundred of hours and it won't make a difference.

Also I would much rather see dated graphics than ones that don't match like on that Soldier dude.

I will admit though it's quite nice to have this much colour in a formerly dull brown game.

Yeah, I'm not hating on the mod fyi. It's certainly interesting to see Morrowind in this kind of perspective.

You obviously haven't played Morrowind, or you've been stuck in the Ashland for some reason. :P

While i do agree there is a difference between NPC's and environment visuals i don't think his that awful/out of place either... I'll have to give Morrowind a second chance some time.

Regarding Freelancer modding even after hundreds of hours it still helped me to get back in the game, beating the game with the Ragnarok from FF VIII was awesome , though that's besides the case graphics no mater how small of an increase for some reason also made me go forward to play it again.
