Starting VBA Up

I just downloaded VBA today, and I've watched a couple tutorials on how to download games and where to save them and all of that, and I'm pretty sure I have it all saved right (I could be wrong though) and every time I try to open Pokemon Emerald up in it, it loads up to 100% and will then go down and then back up and continues to do so.

Is this a saving error? Has it happened to anybody else before? Or is it something that happens whenever you first try to open a game up in VBA?
